Oh man!! That sucks but hopefully insurance will have a shiny new bumper on there for ya! And damn that KIA, it was actually KIA'd!
Any airbag deployment on your end??

It doesn't even look like anything is wrong with his bumper though :notsure:

I would be cautious with that, my front plate bumper got hit last year and unfortunately what they say about them being a damage multiplier proved to be true. At first it appeared that only the point of impact was a bit bent but when I went to pop my hood the hood did not pop up and it was rubbing the latch unlike it ever had before...log story short version - the whole front end was slightly tweaked and had to pulled on a frame machine.

I was just saying the bumper doesn't look to have taken any damage aside from the scratches....since it's not his fault a frame check on the Kia owner shouldn't be a problem :)

I have to wait until later this week to verify if there was any other damage. And no the air bag didn't deploy. We weren't going that fast.

Probably an obvious answer but if I regear my rear and leave my front at the stock ratios (to regear in the future to match the rear) then I should be fine (ie. not worry about breaking transmission/transfer) as long as I don't engage 4x4 mode and stay in 4x2, right?

Edit: I'd basically be running 4.30 up front and 4.88 at the rear with an optionable ARB locker. I'm thinking the only time I may be safe-ish running 4x4 is in the sand or loose gravel but definitely not on pavement or hard rocks where gripping is required.

I'd disconnect/remove the front driveshaft to prevent the possibility of creating an issue, but maybe that's just me and my old-school thinking. I wouldn't risk re-gearing the rear without also addressing the front given the choice. I wouldn't give up 4wd just to get better gearing (let me know if you disagree - we can swap your parts with my prerunner!)

I wouldn't engage 4x at all if the gears don't match. What happens if that sand has grip somewhere in it?

I was just going to disconnect the fuse from the panel that powers the switch to engage 4x4; I'd think that'd be simpler. Yea, given the choice, I wouldn't either. However, for the sake of cost, time, and convenience I may have to regear the rear and wait a few weeks or months until regearing the front -- I'd just have to limit my offroading to 4x2 and brute-forcing my way through climbs without the front engaged.

I think I'd only risk it if I really needed to and only in the softest of sand.. like out in Glamis and needing to engage the front to get unstuck from a pretty bad hole (of course, that's assuming my traction pads that I'd go to first break).

Yes, that may work as well (I'm used to mechanical xfer cases, pulling a fuse didn't occur to me).

Plus, you never know when you might need to drive home on front wheel drive.

Is buying them separately, waiting until you have both, and installing together an option? :notsure:

It is but I was thinking of going to Jason (Speed Freek) to get my rear done since he has done it and said he could help out but also wouldn't be able to do the front (so I'd have to go to a shop for that on another occasion).

Yeah I am not experienced with the front clamshell type, in reality I could probably do it but dont want to use anybody besides myself as a guinea pig, lol.
I still think the ECGS front exchange is the best idea for that, then do an ARB on the rear and I can do all of that at once (including the front swap)

And if you regear the rear and its different than the front its like riding a dolphin! You will be doing the buck and jerk dance, lol. It would be undriveable unless in super deep sand and even then it might want to bounce.

This is first hand knowledge, I have been in a truck with different gearing and it was almost comical trying to drive! I drove it in dirt (not sand) and it was like I had entered a Rodeo but forgot my hat and boots.

Anybody have the stock rear axle breather that I can have? It would be the one you replace when doing the breather mod.
