The Cedar fire of 2003 was apocalyptic.

I woke up in North Park on a Sunday and had to move my then gf from NP to La Mesa. Ash was raining down from the sky under dark scorched clouds and none of the news agencies had picked up the story yet. I thought that a thermonuclear device had been detonated to the north--seriously, there was no news of what was happening, only ash raining down from the sky. It was nuts for the next week.

Apocalyptic definitely describes it! I woke up and my whole room was orange from the smoke, my parents didn't even notice. Watched it rage through Camp Elliot and into Scripps until it was about 1000 yards south of our house before we finally left. Lots of friends lost their houses, luckily winds shifted right after we left and saved ours.

And I was pretty much right in the middle of those 3 large fires..the only fire that actually worried me ever! Its been 13 years now and Im pretty certain the undergrowth has returned and more than doubled since then...could happen again but worse.

Imagine if terrorists wanted to create havoc!! Would be waay too easy by lighting multiple fires in hard to reach, heavily wooded areas, its a damn scary reality....dont even really want to think about it!

I remember having to pack up my parents house in Poway because they were out of the country for that and moving it to my friends house that had to be evacuated in Scripps! My parents neighborhood survived because they said some random kids we riding around with a firehose blasting flames going towards houses. Only damage was a few fences and small trees. It was crazy to see a line of flames coming down from Lake Poway going towards houses. Most definitely surreal and hope to not have to go through that shit again but I guess it's inevitable when "hikers" get lost and decide to shoot a "flare gun" to help them get rescued.

It sounds like today to Sunday, but chances are with how TW meets normally go, most people won't stick around for Saturday. I'll be going tomorrow afternoon and stay until Sunday at ironwoods if all goes as planned.

I work for the water district at the time. I was sent up to Harbison Canyon with a meter reader to go build pressure in the system. Only way to do that is to kill water two structures that are either burnt down or are beyond saving. The pressure put on you to decide whether a house can be saved or not and to turn their water off is soul crushing. No firefighters, no police, no one was up there. This was during the Harvest and Fire when it slipped through too fast for the fire department to do anything. After we had gone through there and swept the area, the following morning the wind had shifted and the fire came back through to finish off what it had started. I will never forget this now, I will never forget the sounds. That fire messed me up for a long time.

Get your front wheels straight and make sure the new one is centered before install, which you probably now know, but just an FYI. I thought I had an old one, but no luck.

Nothing too recent, except the bypasses that Jeff did for me, which came out great!
