You might want to do some research first because I really don't think that 8 gauge is sufficient. Most folks use 1/0 GA...

Where are you located ? I have a set of hydraulic crimpers.

Missed that part, yeah 8 gauge is way to small, do some research on how many amps you need and look at a chart like this

...and if you have a winch keep it connected directly to the battery that is closest to it. A winch draws 300+ amps during a loaded pull, that will roast inadequate cable in a heart beat.

You also need to do some research around adequate grounding and upgrading all of your OE alternator power, and OE grounds. Your entire OE system is designed for covering one OE battery located 3 ft from the alternator. A lot of folks have cooked wires doing this wrong, you might want to dive into the expo thread to get more advice too. Just to be super clear - you're looking at a fire if you do this wrong.

8 gauge for 3 batteries too lol. Might as well use 18 gauge.

Oh dang missed the gauge selection completely, I hope ya like REALLY REALLY HOT wires, lol.
    The bigger the better!

I like to use the garden hose analogy...think of it like this:

The size of the hose is what causes resistance, garden hose 3/4" vs. 3" firehose...resistance causes heat, so too small causes heat as amperage increases..(imagine if the water created friction the more you put through it)

The voltage is the Pressure at which the hose is seeing. (30psi)

The amperage is how much is coming through the hose (30 gallons per minute)

Use the largest wire you can, if using a winch, wire it directly to the battery with the shortest cables possible!
You cant use a wire thats too big but you certainly can use a wire thats too small, always err on the side of caution..hope this helps anybody that has any confusion about how electricity works, or hell I dunno, maybe I just made it even more confusing, haha.

Oh, shit, haha. Sorry for the confusion, guys; it's 2-gauge wire. I'm not sure why I said 8 -- was probably sleepy. I have this exact kit:
    http://www.genesisoffroad.com/Universal-Dual-Battery-Kit-p/151-udbk.htm

I already have a PC1500 as my primary in the engine bay:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008FY5UF8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What I have in my garage waiting for me to install are.. a 2nd/3rd battery of the same exact one that will go in the bed inside a UWS tool chest along with both of my ARB compressors (twin for airing/utiliity, single for eventual rear locker) and a Switch Pros kit (I have a sPod in the engine bay already powering mainly lights for now). I was going to route the 2-gauge wire from the engine bay, under the truck along the frame, and up behind the cab to the bed where the chest will be mounted to the rear.

In the future, I want to eventually have a 100w solar panel on the roof rack and a fridge in the bed.

For crimping, I'll try the center punch and hammer trick or use my table vice. The wire's pretty thick and I have 15' of each pos/neg that I might have to trim a few inches off (or just leave on if only a few) after routing from the bay to bed.

I'm pretty new to a lot of this major electrical stuff and really up until now all I've done is wire up LEDs to my sPod.

I'm located in North County (PQ area); bonus picture..

I have used American Battery in Escondido and they do top notch work at a great price. Been around for ever and know their stuff. I didn't have the tools to do what I wanted and they hooked it up.

I'm stuck w. my little daughters swim class until 12:00, and I am free after that. I could come to you wherever you are. Thanks so much for helping me. I will be in your debt.

Anyone local have a front bed rail they want to get rid of?

Didn't realize my new truck only has the side rails and figured I'd check before ordering online
