Question for you guys since I am new to this scene. I am in the market for a 2nd gen Tacoma ('10-'15) and had my eyes set on a double cab 4x4 with TRD Off-Road. I probably won't do much off-roading but I figured it would be nice to have the rear locking diff. My impatient self has been searching for the right Tacoma but can't seem to find that right one, so I was looking into a TRD Sport (which probably fits me better since this truck won't see much off-road stuff). What is the main difference between the Sport and Off-Road package besides the rear locking diff?

Mechanically that's about it. The stock suspension on the offroad is a bit softer vs the sport which is a bit firmer for road use. Obviously the locking diff vs the LSD. The Sport does come with a larger diff (8.4 vs OR with 8.0). The sport comes with the skewp, color matched bumper, grille and mirrors. Aside from that I think the rest is the same.

Main difference is that the Sport has slightly different suspension (a bit stiffer), non-functioning hood scoop, and the fender flairs and rear bumper are color matched. And, as you mentioned, rear locking diff on the OR vs. limited slip diff for the Sport.

Thanks for the replies you two. The purpose of the truck I am looking for is going to be used half of the week to commute on (other half is on my motorcycle), used to haul my motorcycle to the track and occasional off-road use and trips up to Tahoe/Mammouth. I figured the 4x4 would be sufficient enough for me, but wanted the OR so I don't have to worry about needing it.

I have the TRD Sport and so far haven't needed the locking diff. You really would only need this if you are planning to do serious rock crawling. You can always add an ARB air locker if you find you need one later.

I totally forgot about one change between the sport and the OR. I know this is true for the 2nd gen tacomas but I'm not sure if it carried over to the 3rd gens.
The 2nd gen TRD Off Road model received an electronically assisted brake booster vs all other models which have a standard vacuum brake booster.

Probably a stupid question but I've never done this before.. are polyurethane bushings supposed to be a little larger in diameter than the leaf spring eye hole they're going into? I have a set of Energy Suspension bushings that I was going to put in today while swapping out my shackles but I didn't because I saw they were about 3/16" larger in diameter than the slot.

Also, what areas should I lube? The outer surface of the poly, in the inner surface between the poly and the metal sleeve, and/or inside the metal sleeve where the bolt will contact?

I just installed near rear leafs and the bushings weren't larger and pressed in by hand and the directions were to lube between the poly and metal sleeve. Hope this helps...
