My shop has the swan system I bought at sams club. Has an app to see live feed from my phone. Night vision mode. Records 30 days of video from 8 cameras running 24/7.

Hardest part is wiring cable and input lines

one of my old co workers used a bunch of his old android phones to setup a home security system. They were all connected via wi-fi running a DVR app (dont remember the name) but he was able to access them via web on the fly. Might be something worth looking into, especially if you have some old android phones laying around. Running power to all of them would be a small challenge on it's own.

Another option is to build your own camera/DVR setup based on your needs. Blue Iris makes software for this but you'd need a separate PC to drive it, etc. More configurable, but costs more than a Swann setup. Allows more options for cameras, different types of integration, etc.

We have a pretty good neighborhood but had an odd situation a while back where a friend of a neighbor entered our garage (main door was up) and came right into the house without considering that she might not be at the correct address. There was no threat to the family or home, but that was enough for me to convince my wife that cameras were a good idea. Now it's a little more like Fort Knox around here!

Good luck with your setup (and ex).

I had Amazon do same day delivery on the 1I posted earlier, I've had a hell of a time setting it up though. I got one out of 4 cameras that are actually able to pick up. The whole Wi-Fi thing has been an absolute nightmare for me

That's the thing with these Wi-Fi cameras. You need to make sure the Wi-Fi encompasses, or at least reaches, the area where the cameras are mounted. How old is your wireless router?

My router is maybe a year-old, it has picked up one camera that I put way-out in the shop. I put that 1 way-out there thinking that it's too far away, and somehow that's the only 1 it picks up. The other 3 cameras are within 20' of the router. The only one that's being picked up is is about 50' away-and threw 2 brick walls

Any reason why you wont be using a thermostatic controller with an override switch? Thats how I set them up. That should move a TON of air...nice.
Shoot, let me know if you ever come towards north county and Ill grab that mat from you, haha, I keep forgetting, Or I can come grab it if I can find a spare moment to run out, sorry for laggin dude!
If I can help out with the truck, or helps you with some ideas, just lemme know!

    Hmmmm..

Sounds good except for the being in California part, where defending yourself is frowned upon (Lame right!!?)...Pistol for HD would be best in a CQ scenario IMO. The AR could probably kill the neighbors if you got too froggy and started sending too many panic rounds! Lol.

    @climbhigher23

I never responded to the original post, but I agree 100% that a pistol is the best option. An AR is not an urban defense device and does not belong in most situations unless you A) have large amounts of property and need a tool to reach distance more accurately or B) give zero fucks because SHTF scenario. Not saying they aren't a great tool, they just have too much velocity for HD and more than likely over penetrate.

As for the shotgun, it's a good option but unless you a previously trained on CQB with a long gun I would still prefer a pistol. Long guns are very easily turned against you in close quarter if not used appropriately.

If no one claims it before I make another recycling run that's what I'll do. I collect tons of left over wire from work and make regular trips to the recycling center.

I was going to.say change locks.

Agreed. Until you start to deal with California fun laws and then add all the things to an ar to make it legal.

So handgun is my preferred hd gun

That was too much electrical work for my basic knowledge, haha; I also just wanted to keep it as simple as possible and not interfere with any other existing components. I'm just going to flip it on when on slow-moving trail runs where the rig isn't getting enough speed to get the most optimal natural airflow to the coolers. With these two 12" fans, there is about 2,200cfm being moved. I'm probably going to end up going to you sooner than you come to me because I'm moving out of my place in 3 weeks back to my parents until I find a bigger place to rent. I'm going to have to poke your brain for ideas on an independent suspension trailer in the future.

Also, here's a video of the fans working..
