Well, I only did what Jason said to do... he mentioned Lucas first, then SeaFoam second. The Lucas was sold in two sizes, a 15 gal treatment ($6+) and a 30 gal (for $10+). This is what I bought yesterday at Auto Zone: https://www.amazon.com/Lucas-Oil-10...uel+treatment&qid=1561821269&s=gateway&sr=8-5

The BG stuff (just looked at Amazon) is way more expensive ($22+) and treats 20 gallons: https://www.amazon.com/BG-44K-Syste...eywords=bg44k&qid=1561820938&s=gateway&sr=8-1 It is really that good? ;)

I'm going be down in San Diego from July 8th to the 12th with my truck and was wondering if any of you could answer a few questions. While there I would like to do a day trip to Anza-Borrego. I was planning on going in through Canyon Sin Nombre and down the Diablo Drop Off and out through Fish Creek with a stop in Sandstone Canyon. The first question is, is this even doable in a day (time wise) or should I look at something closer to SD. My other question pertains to Sandstone Canyon. I heard there was a rock fall around the first of the year that blocked the canyon. I was wondering if you can get through it now or if it's still blocked. Lastly, I was planning on going on Tuesday the 9th. I realize this is in the middle of the work week, but if anyone wants to join in on a day run I would be happy to have company.

Yes, this is very doable in a day. It’s a fair amount of ground to cover but we’ve done it many times. Really depends on how fast you like to drive through the washes. It’s about a 2 hour drive out depending on where you’re staying so you’ll want to start early.

Also, this is not the season to head to Anza. Expect it to be hot and bring lots of water. It’s getting hot.

I know that people have been getting through the rock blockage but I haven't been out there since so I’m not sure of the extent. Probably going to want sliders at the least.

G went through Sandstone not long ago and said that the Jeep folks cleared a way through debris that fell in winter. They get through okay, but Tacos will need spotting to avoid problems. Even the other gate keeper was smoothed some to make it more passable.

Thanks for the info. Planning on starting around 8 and hoping to be back around 4 or 5. Speed wise I'm used to driving long distances on dirt roads at a fairly good clip. With this being a new area though, I'm sure I'll be going slower and stopping to look around some.

As for the heat, yeah It's probably not the best time to be out. I figure the AC in the truck is going to get a good workout. My wife has a conference that week and that's why we are in SD. While she is stuck in the conference, my daughter and I will be running around SD. We are definitely planning on bringing lots of water with us along with us and the basic survival stuff is always in the truck due to my job.

We will have to see about Sandstone Canyon. The truck is on 33's and has sliders, but just the stock skid plates. If I'm running solo, I won't have a spotter. Pinstriping is fin, but dents are another story.

    Thanks again for your help!

When I did Sandstone last fall ( before the winter collapse ), it didn't have any rutting that your skid would be needed for, at least up to the original gate keeper. I'm not sure about beyond that, but there's plenty of space to turn around just before it. If your daughter is old enough, maybe she can at least keep an eye on the sides to see if you're getting too close and can advise you to take a closer look?

I would not do sandstone if you are going to be the only truck and with no winch. I was out there recently and didn’t go past the rock fall area.

    Was there April 27

This was not there in December
    B0BEE48C-AD4D-425F-8990-21878C1EF321.jpg

I made it through in a 3rd Gen with a spotter. Was real tight needed to fold my side mirrors and tires were rubbing on rocks pretty much both sides. After this spot it was smooth cruising to the Gatekeeper.

    Gatekeeper on April 27

That is not me at the Gatekeeper, but I made it thru the new rock slide and all the way to the Gatekeeper in 2wd! Good luck cuz when I went it was 104 degrees!

Thanks for all of the advice! I'll probably skip out on Sandstone if I'm by my self. My daughter is 9, so without a good spotter, it's not worth damage to the truck.

Really not looking forward to the heat, but this is just the warmup. After SD we're headed into New Mexico for a few days and eventually the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP. I figure I'm going to fry.

Lucas definitely has good products. I've been using the BG for several years, with no complaints. I just use it once a year.

Yeah Shane, homeboy had absolutely no Armor! He got really lucky if not for a experienced leader from another group stacking rocks for him, his front bumper would be torn up !

Is there anybody around that can help with remove a T bolt from my tailgate? It's to install an anti-theft bracket, but the dang thing is resisting and those that are trying to do this mod are having the same issues. The fella that made these also did the 2nd Gen versions ( who also had issues getting that dang t-bolt out. Members that are able to get this mod done have the right tools, but I'm not buying everything needed just to do this, and honestly, I don't care if the T-bolt is drilled out and I replace it with something else.

I've got the right sized T40 bit, by my tools are too meager for it.

Hit that bolt with some heat. Probably has thread locker on it. Do you have a heat gun or mini torch?

What tool exactly do you need to get it out? I have an impact driver that you hit with a hammer from harbor freight and a BFH that might be able to break it loose.
