It is really just a little offshoot that is sketchy. I wouldn't try it. It is 100% optional it isn't like you would even mistakenly go in that direction. Other than that it is just a shelf road. I am afraid of heights it doesn't phase me so it isn't that intimidating.

In normal conditions I consider it only slightly mildly uncomfortable. Like "hey, that is a loooooooong way down", not "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit".
And I hate shelf roads as a rule. Will do most of them, just don't like them.
Funny thing is, I am not nominally afraid of heights.

I didn't get to be a few months short of age 70 by putting myself into sketchy situations. (Yeah right, just damn lucky!) I used to fly my hanglider off of Palomar back in the day...funny thing is, I am afraid of heights...but love to fly! There's a new generation of hanglider pilots that still fly off of Palomar. (Helmets, parachutes, oxygen for high altitude flying) I have no idea where they launch now. We flew without parachutes back in the early 70's. There's an old hangliding book of that era titled: "The Flyingest Flying"
I took the photo of the author after he had crashed on takeoff at Palomar that is on the rear cover of the book. Stephan McCarroll, who passed a year or so later after crashing his powered glider.

If you look closely at the photo, you can see the snout of a dog over the pilots shoulder and the dogs tail off the pilots hip. Photo is of my Hangliding buddy Burke and his dog Curtis. The dog flew with a harness that hung off the kite frame and allowed the dog to stand on Burke's back. Curtis loved to fly! Photo is at least 45 years old, Burke still flys to this day often at Torrey Pines or wherever the wind is blowing!

It was about a 35 minute drive from my house in North County to the base of the mountain. We got there early (~9) and there was no line at the chain control area (2 cars in front of us). Maybe about 20 mins up to where those pics were taken.

By the time we left they were closing/opening the road in intervals and there was a ~ mile long line to get up.

Does anyone have an OVtune cable/license handy? I lost mine hardware when I moved and need to update my tune to bump up my alternator voltage. I hadn't touched it since 2020 but apparently a lot has changed since then...

Question. Found someone selling Bilstein 6112’s for $340 but they have 35k miles… you guys think it’s worth the price or does it have too many miles to risk them being shot

I paid ~$780 last April for mine new thru Hotshot Offroad and they paid the taxes since I was buying al sort of other stuff at the same time. So you are getting roughly a little more than half off vs. new.
    • Any idea how hard they were ridden? Street miles vs. offroad?
    • If offroad, easy trails or more rock crawling?
    • Are you a wrencher, meaning can you and are you doing the work yourself or are you paying someone?
    • How do you plan to use them?
Lots of factors. In the short term it could be a good deal. But since they are not rebuildable, if they fail in 40k miles and you have to do it all over again and pay for someone to install new ones, well it all adds up. If the previous owner rode them hard and you plan to do the same, well...

I wish I was good at wrenching. I'm just not. I typically always do new cause I'm paying someone else for labor and want it new to last as long as possible so I don't keep going back for more labor.

No clue as to how they were used and what miles on road bs off road.

I’m planning on going to the desert and also hitting east trails. Also will be going the work myself so I’d save costs on paying a shop

If you do all your own stunts it’s a decent bandaid until you can piece together your ideal setup.
