Thanks, more like "unbuild" as it used to be LT, bedcage etc. Got to the point it was rarely offroad since I have other faster, more comfortable toys now. Just finally feel like its in a spot where I can part ways with it, just dont want to sell it to some kid whose gonna wreck it, hence the price.

Cool. I grew up near Grossmont College. I remember when the 15 did not exist north of Clairmont mesa and was two Lanes on each side of the canyon with those small hump bridges. At CM you would take kerney villa rd to pomarado rd

Small world. A few of the snooty Scripps Ranch folks didn't want Pomerado Road opened...they were afraid the Poway riff raff would come up the hill into Scripps Ranch!

I live just south of Grossmont College now, lol. I remember the 52 and 56 finally being opened as well. 56 was a great one to go fast as a new driver :burnrubber:

Not surprising at all. Instead just got tons of thru-traffic. I was the first class to do all 3 grades at the original Marshall Middle too. I'm hoping one day I'll be able to afford a house back there.

Did another relocation, been doing a lot of those lately...plus a few other upgrades while I was at it…came out pretty nice.

However on the other hand my own truck started knocking today while driving and had to shut it down and get it towed home, sounded like a rod bearing leaving the chat in my experience..time to go forged assembly, I needed an excuse to upgrade the engine anyway so I can actually crank up the boost if I want to.
I was only running it at around 6psi and it’s been ticking for a while even before the turbo and it got louder rather quickly so it was just a matter of time.
Time to go forged and crank it up..

Yeah According to the odometer is was about 30 miles, so not much at all. It had a slight tick when I initially put the engine in back in 2012 but wasn't of concern but over time it got slightly louder and once the turbo got installed that seem to be drastically accelerated and yesterday was the end for that rotating assembly.

I have an LS1 (aluminum block 5.7L) but from the research I have done they arent safe for anything nearing 1K hp and I DO NOT LIKE limitations, haha..
The newer LS2 6.0, also an aluminum block, can take a lot more power due to the improved block design, and the LS3, which is also aluminum but in a 6.2L displacement with the better flowing square port heads rather than cathedral port stuff like the LS1/LS2 comes with. There are ways to put the LS3 head onto the earlier blocks but then you don't get the benefit of the stronger engine bock so that would be fine for an NA setup but not ideal for boost.

I could just go with the 5.3 if I can find an L33 variant since that was an aluminum block but stronger than the LS1 and also a uses a 24x reluctor wheel crank signal for the ECU I currently have, however I can easily convert the harness over to the newer 58x setup the Gen 4 LS engines use and reconfigure it to 58x in the setup menu, so that's not too difficult to do.

But If I can find an actual LS3 or a 6.2 Vortech variant that would be my first choice, depending on price of course...they tend to be expensive due to demand for obvious reasons.

It gets confusing and becomes a topic for argument in forums when people fight over the title of LS vs Vortech platforms, it just really comes down to nomenclature in the end since the internals are effectively the same.

Here is a quick rundown of the two and their differences for anyone who cares to learn about it..

So the differences between the two are that the Vortech is typically an iron block variant of an LS engine that was put into trucks and SUVs that uses a tall truck style intake, deeper oil pan, and a longer accessory drive (this is the reason why people that use the Vortech engines usually swap over to an LS intake and acc. drive from a Corvette or Camaro to make the package smaller) as well as the way the engine harness is layed out with the LS harness being much cleaner looking whereas the Vortech has a ton of the wiring on top of the manifold thats covered by a plastic shroud.

The "true" LS engines were typically Aluminum blocks with shorter intakes, cleaner wiring harness, shallower oil pans and save from 85 to 100# give or take from the block.

Aaanyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend! Hopefully this is the last hot one for a while so we can officially kick off desert season!!

I use SD TINT in el cajon area, good prices, good service, and never had an issue with them. Appointment only, closes at 2pm. www.sdtint.com

Plus side is all the hard work is done, so swapping any one of the motors is wayyyy easier now, compared to the whole build process

yep San Diego Tint, 7147 University Ave, La Mesa, CA 91942

took a few cars there in recent years, a corvette, 2 CX5's, the guy does really good work although i wish he had more options for the windshield. he does windshields well no issues there i just wish there were really light % options for the windshield, though i dont see why not. the box of tint film doesnt know what glass its going on.. in any case, i find right around a 30% film is the sweet spot for everything except the windshield =D

Yessir, that is true, all the fabrication aside from the 4" electronic cutout for my exhaust is done so it could be much worse. That being said it is still quite a lot of work to get that MFer out of there since I have to remove the entire core support then I have the access to pull the engine and transmission out as one unit where they can be separated..but yep is what it is, it just really shortened my timeline for doing so.
I really didn't need the extra work at the moment but that's how things go sometimes, lol...

Do you tint your windshield as well? And if so how does that affect your visibility at night?

@Speed Freek my truck windshield currently isn't tinted but i've had a few cars with the windshield done.

so that there's no confusion even though you probly know this.. the % of tint film is the amount of light allowed through, not blocked. therefore..

30% tint is my preferred sweet spot for the entire vehicle - except the windshield basically just as light as possible. nothing darker for the windshield than 70% and 80 is preferred. also, needs to be one of the usual 2-3 known good brands and it has to be the good ceramic stuff. not the oldschool dye-film crap of years gone by (the shit you see turning purple in a year or two at most) and not the middle of the road quality metalized stuff either. the metalized stuff actually interferes with electronics such as your gps and phone. so basically the choice is ceramic or ceramic.

i recently sold a little jaguar convertible that had the windows tinted, as purchased, darker than i normally like them AND the windshield wasn't even done and it was STILL too dark at night, once in a while. not all the time, just every here and there. to the point that i kinda wanted the window down haha. so yeah, 30% is the sweet spot. the 15% and whatnot that some guys put in their cars is too dark. the infrared heat rejection that you get at each % is basically a judgement call, so, yeah.

in california i believe the legal limit is 70% which isn't much at all and the windshield cannot be done at all - one reason to be conservative about having your windshield done. the cop has no way to check the windshield itself, as their gadget requires being put over the exposed edge of say.. a rolled down window. so yeah, that's kinda that. but per the above, don't push it, 70% as a limit, and no darker than, is the way to go.

not going too dark, for years now, has kept me clear of the cops. in this state you cannot have the front windows done at all either. its lame. but of course everyone does, so my solution was always to refrain from being that guy and throw some good 30-35% ceramic on there instead of the 10% that these bros around here use, and call it a day =D

50% on windshield. if anything, cuts down on the "stars", or bright lights, especially from cheapo aftermarket leds in headlights.
    50% on factory "tinted" windows
15% on fronts to match the rears

I initially would have preferred lighter all around like around 35%, but I have grown into the darkness level I have now.

llumar irx, from a place on mission gorge off the I-8. I've used SD tint in la mesa in the past, good work from those guys, wish he had other flavors of tint.

All of our vehicles get tinted and I can't imagine not having it. I would definitely try and not get stuck behind CHP with the windshield done.
