linked with a 1 piece? bad idea... and a custom v8 swap in two weeks? doubtful. hope for being done in a minimum of 2 months. its alot more than you think... custom engine and tranny mounts, custom cross members, custom driveline... not to mention wiring if you go with fuel injection, cutting out firewall to scoot the motor back, blah blah blah.... good luck but dont take shortcuts. you will pay for them in the end.

you want the links, stick to the 2 piece , keep the slip yoke in the driveshaft. you want to convert to one piece... make sure you have a th400 (or the likes of depending on the motor you use) trans and a solid mount at the tranny, 5 inch slip in the driveshaft.

v8 would be a hopeful thing lol.

But I didnt think staying with a two piece would be a good idea.
I just found out when this truck was raced(last year) it had a completly different drivetrain setup that what is in it now. thats why i ran into these problems.

Would i be better off extending the drive shaft to needed lenfth and just beefing up the spline?
because the stock spline is to short and is getting pulled out and the teeth are just being grinded off

no.. you need to just re-strap the rear end so it stops pulling out. all that gnar ass travel doesnt mean a damn thing when the guy on stock leafs and 5150's is blowing past you because your driveshaft separated. what length straps are you running at the moment and what are your plunge and anti-squat numbers?

Thats what i thought i needed to do, but the grinding started on the street, from just stop on start moving, I think the driveshaft is just not long enough, I can see the teeth on the spline when its sitting at normal height. i dont know those numbers how can i check?

seeing the splines at ride height really means nothing... it all depends how long the slip yoke is. you need to look over the geometry of your entire rear end if you are having problems like that.

as for measuring plunge, set your rear end full bump and look at your slip yoke and mark it with a soap pen or a sharpie, then full droop it and make again... now measure between the 2 points... thats your plunge number.

i recall you a while back saying you were pulling over 30 in the rer of your truck, IF that is even a true statement (which i highly doubt) you reallly might want to consider strapping it at either 24 to 26 inches. its time you learn to adjust the dampening of the rear of the truck. you will see it said many many times over and over.. 14 inches of finely tuned well dampended travel is better than 40 inches of dirty hooker shit dampened travel.

ill put money on it you restrap the rear and adjust your pinion angle through the cycle of the suspension... you will be golden.

thanks for the help, ill check the numbers when i get my truck back.

and on the rear travel, The person I bought it from told me it was strapped at 36, wether its true or not, but he jacked the rear end with the tires on the ground and walked under the rear(hes 6"2) so it may not be 36 inches but its def not 18 or 20 lol.

I already know the slip yoke is too short, my center bearing got pulled into literally two pieces last week.

is there anyway I can check how much travel is in the rear with shocks?

you have to pull the coils off of the coilovers and squat the ass end till its resting fully bumped. take a measurement from center wheel to top of bedside, then jack it up until limit strap is tight... take measurement. subtract first one from the second one. im betting the guy who sold it to you was either full of shit or amazing at geometry. just restrap the rear s you dont have to dump 1500 into a new driveline.

and as for the meeting on friday night, ill be spending friday night out there as well but sure as hell aint camping by blow sand... i have seen disasters happen in those camp sites.. ill be off to the right of the bridge just before the blue inn. so will a few of my boys. your more than welcome to share camp with us.

I'm still up in the air as to whether or not I'll make it. I called Toyota SD today and he said they're waiting on the insurance company for an adjustment. He said they have to replace the whole back end. Once he gets approval, he estimates about a week to complete it.

i posted somewhere in here but this thread is huge and could've been easily missed...

dtrujillo63, myself and a few others will be camping out off Highway 78 just a mile or two from the Ranger Station in a area called Blowsand hill. we'll be somewhere north from Highway 78 off of Main St. which is a dirt road.

check out the Google Map for area approximation...

Awesome! I'll pass along the information. Expectations are high for this meet! Besides the camera, I'm thinking about the camcorder as well. I'll need a reason for it? Does anyone go streaking after they've had one too many? LOL. :D I also checked out the weather...High of 72. Low of 39! Damn that's going to be cold. Maybe I should bring a heater and plug it in! Hmmm.
