Took a relatively quick 2 nighter down to the San Rafael Swell, Mexican Mountain Road area to get away and relax after a pretty hectic week of work. It had been a month & 1/2 since the last time I was able to get out, so was really looking forward to it to say the least :dancingbacon: The SRS and reef areas are so close to the SLC area, and make for a super easy weekend getaway. Usually try to get more off the beaten path, but this was great for just having 2 nights.

After finishing packing up gear and food, hitting Cruiser Outiftters to do a quick retourqe of my new suspension - myself, a good friend of mine Mike and my dog hit the road Friday about 11:30am.

Arrived around 2pm, and after exploring a bit, found a great campsite down by the San Rafael river. Started to set up camp, then a strong storm rolled through and forced to take shelter under the Ez-up canopy.. Cracked open a few road sodas (what else you gonna do?) and waited it out. Rain in the desert is so scarce overall, it's hard to be too put out by it, even if it's slightly inconvenient (trust me, have had some trips where I thought what desert? after 3 days straight of non-stop rain ;)) Wasn't able to set up the arb awning as it was a little too windy, didn't want to chance of it buckling.

Next day we journeyed out along the Mexican mountain road, and hiked out to the upper black box/san rafael river gorge overlook. Hadnt seen that view in a while and was great to test out the new Nikon DSLR. Still getting used to it and tooling around with it.

Had a great 2nd evening & night, made chicken chili from scratch and cornbread in the dutch oven, sipped some good bourbon and had a rager of a fire. Was super windy that night, and overall the weekend weather was so-so. Spring in the dez.

    Looks like good times.

Windy on Friday? Na, down near Temple Mountain you could still see a few feet thru the "dust out".

Ha!!! Oh snap! What Friday was that? I didn't catch quite that velocity of wind, must have been a different week.. Wow, that's sketchy! Love the Dez.. Thanks for sharing.

That looks like a really cool spot, definitely a great camp! Dig the RTT's..
