In *my opinion* driving is sand is 70% driver skill and 30% truck. Ive driven in the big dunes out in Gordons Well with stock suspension with the exception of 2.5" coilovers, blasted small dunes out there in a 100% stock, non-locked 4x4 Frontier as well.

I run my truck: 10-12 PSI, 4Hi, locked rear, and liberal skinny pedal. I've run in 4Lo in 2,3,4 gears before as well. Having the balls to keep momentum and take a reasonable hit is better then stopping and getting stuck IMO.

-Don't be afraid of high rpm. (Read: pin it, to win it)
-If you slow to a stop/about to get stuck, gently reverse straight down.
-Expect something to break, you'll be happier if something doesn't break.
-Remember that you have to drive it home, play accordingly.
-Tire rub sounds scary, but is usually harmless.
    -Don't be stupid.

All this coming from the guy who drives his truck 150 miles one way, with a fully loaded bed or 12' trailer, takes it out in the dunes nightly, and drives it all back home at the end of the weekend. Every trip. You would be surprised what, even a stock truck, can do with the right driving.
