    Weird, I thought sand dissolved on gas...that sure looks like sand in the tank. And dude, thats alot of sand for getting hit by a wave that didnt go over your wheels lol. I'm gonna say someone dumped some shit in your tank.

    Also.. for the record, after just 5206 Miles, there was carbon /black and brown gunk built up on the end of the high pressure injectors.

    Blow through your injectors both ways in to a cup, see if you get any sand particles.

    Yea it's hard to believe that sand got dumped in there, or how it happened. But the sands definitely there.

    The tech did mention that once he disconnected the fuel lines and drained them and reprinted Everything the truck ran fine.

    So who knows.

    All in all, my trucks back. I'm happy. Due to rental car and such it cost me 1300 out of pocket and probably a nice raise in insurance premiums.

    The tech drove it home and back about 60 miles, his wife loved and asked to keep the truck..... he now has the green light to go buy one.

    A win for everyone.

    They were laying in a box with sand in it, so I don't think that will be accurate.

    I asked for the parts so I could salvage the tank, once the fuel in it evaporates, in case one ever cracks, and the fuel rails are worth a lot of money,. The injectors just need a good bench test/clean and they are practically brand new. Several thousands worth of parts sitting there.

    Also worth noting that a lot of that more brownish dirt is from the local OHV area. Several creek crossings and that sandy mud. Pismo sand is more fine and yellower/tan

    Ahhh ok. Yeah I'm curious if maybe the sand was clogging the pump sock and just causing a low fuel pressure problem. I just dont see it getting through your injectors and fucking up the engine

    It's hard to tell as I can't see from end to end, but it's not a whole lot, I'd estimate maybe a couple teaspoons at most.

    I always assumed if someone poured sand in your tank they'd use a funnel and pour a whole cup or two in. Not a few pinches lol. And if they didn't use a funnel there'd be a mess in my fuel door area, which there wasn't.

    I guess we will never know the true mode of entry, I'll be returning to Pismo again this summer, but will have to think twice before pulling out any 2500 Cummins diesels.

    I may try to wrap the filler neck breather filter in a rubber cover to shield it from direct hits from the tire. Not sure honestly how to better protect against this. I looked into locking caps, but that'll just void the warranty.

    Only if you throw a code. Make sure you get one that has good reviews and a good seal lol. And it wont void anything, they have to prove that your aftermarket part caused a failure in an OEM part. Magnuson Moss act IIRC

    Locking gas cap is fine.

    Be as cautious as you want with warranty stuff but really, they're fine.

    Keep your old cap, if you get a CEL with a locking cap, stick the old cap back in and sell the locker.

    When you get a chance, can you take some more pictures of this filler neck breather filter? I'd like to know more about this risk. I'm also wondering if anyone knows if this was changed for the 3rd gen.

    Thanks for the pics. It's amazing how complicated things are on these new trucks. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but I don't see how you could have gotten a significant amount of sand in through there. Water maybe. But I still ask why you and not every other truck that goes though a crossing or a car wash. We may never know.

    I vote for smooth sailing from here on out.
