People usually do a solid axle swap when they get into more serious wheeling and rock crawling. Solid axles are simpler in design but not necessarily easier to work on :D

In theory it is easier to achieve a big lift with a solid axle, but people have done gigantic lifts on IFS too. Anything is possible when you combine deep pockets with a narrow brain:laughing:

Really the ONLY bad thing about this truck is the wheels and tires. Throw on some proper ones and armor, and this thing would be unstoppable.

IDK man... that thing is really high, and I don't know about the geometry. Looks like it doesn't have much link separation at the axle. They are supposed to get farther apart at the axle, not closer together. They also lost a lot of clearance/breakover because of the 4 link brackets/subframe. Its really just to impress judges at car shows that don't know anything about solid axles and link geometry.

I guess I was getting at all the people in here who don't know that stuff either (myself included) but are saying it's the worst thing ever because of it's wheel/tire combo.

I know what you mean.Honestly, I don't even hate it. I have more respect for a truck that is specifically built for shows, than trucks built to look like they wheel without any intention of taking it off road.
    Atleast it's 4wd :D

IFS can't be lifted this high, limited by CV joint maximum allowed angle among many other things. With SAS, the sky's the limit. As people would say this rig is just "fo sho!"

You can still get plenty of lift with IFS, just need all kinds of drop bracket madness. 12" bulletproof lift.

It's bro'ed AF, but remove wheels and tires, add some 17" Racelines and some 40" MTR's and now you have a poser wheeling rig.

    Best of both worlds.

Yea those brackets and subframe system hang way low.

Also, with such a narrow axle and the suspension design (parallel links), it is no surprise they couldn't get much link separation at the axle.

Not a bad idea. It has pleeeenty of clearance for bigger tires. It think it would look so much better - for what it is - with some bigger meats under there.

Owner of that "rig" almost certainly has a fuckin' man bun. And wears a knit cap when it's 80 freakin' degrees out.

The trail junk front axle is enough to make me back away slowly and hope it didn't see me.

The easy work is done Now they need to figure out how to make the electronics work, so it's legal, so it functions correctly, so you can get it smoged, so the dashboard is not lit up like a Christmas tree . you see the problem with doing a straight axle on this new Tacoma (or any late Toyota 4x4) is nobody and I mean nobody has figured out how to do the electronics yet. I was at Sema last year and also contacted every aftermarket axle manufacture asked everybody I could find and nobody has a solution yet. I have been communicating with front range off-road and they say they are within a few months of having a front axle that will work with the electronics.

Now to answer questions, it will not pass smog because you are not allowed to have any warning lights on the dash. If you just unplug the front wheel sensors and try to drive it all the lights will come on including the check engine light and you loose all basic ABS functions at this point. Yes I spoke to Dyna trac, all pro, Currie , front range, diamond axle, an off place in Australia , Wyatt at RST and many more.

NOW ! Every time I post this info somebody will say "oh I know somebody who did it and it worked perfect" but nobody has been able to ever prove it , ever ! I always say I'll buy the technology from you or set you up with one of the axle manufacturers who will pay you for this information and every time they flaked and the guy was just putting electrical tape over the dash lights. So please post a link or provide proof otherwise it didn't happen. I've been trying to find a solution for years.
