I think the biggest factor here will be how much the buyer chooses to spend on axles. That may very well be determined by the tire they plan to run. I just don't see the need for $10k in axles on these trucks. But I've never wheeled a SASed taco either. I just find it hard to believe a stock cooperate 14 bolt or Dana60 won't hold up under these trucks even with a 37-40" tire.

I paid $1500 for my front and rear axles. 79 hp dana 60 and 14 bolt I will still have to add gears, lockers and axles to them to get them where I need them to be. That will definitely help some who can't afford the RJ's like myself.

I knew what I was getting in to before I even posted lol. I don't think I need rock jocks personally but to have an all in 1 kit is pretty nifty.

Not if you actually wheel it they wont. You can upgrade them though and still save some coin over the RJ's, but there are some nifty features the RJ has that you just can't add to a junkyard axle.

I believe Wyatt is going to have a nice kit put together hear, making it much easier for the average fab guy to have a nice finished product.

Yep. A 30 spline D60 shaft is only marginally stronger than a Toyota axle shaft.

Damn. That says a lot about Toyota axles though

SAS, crawler box, 14" coilover shocks, 39.5 tires, dual batteries, and a bunch of other stuff

35 spline is the only way to go. A stock dana 60 and 14bolt will be good choices for these kits, but Custom axles are better. That includes custom building your junk yard axle with upgraded parts. As long as your axle tubes are 3" these kits will work just fine for you. dana 44 are just too small for the 2nd gens and they really do require at least a 37" tire because of how long they are.

Same, I'm a little surprised too. I've only killed one axle shaft in the past and that was on the rig below. It was a stock D44 axle from a '78 F150. Since I threw chromoly shafts and new u-joints I haven't had a single problem. I guess it all depends on how you wheel it though. I don't beat on it and only have a stock Jeep 4.0L which feels worse than the 4.0L in these Tacomas. It isn't running monster tires either, only 38.5x11s so that probably saves a lot of headache when it comes to damaged parts.

I've seen 2 other D44s shafts break and that was mainly because of abuse, both stock shafts, never have broken a chromoly one.

I put it next to my taco (Access Cab) and the wheelbase is almost identical (it's a 'stretched' Cherokee). The wheelbase is a bit long for wheeling so I guess if people are going to go big and step up to the 40"+ range of tires and increase power with a supercharger a D60 would be a real solid choice. I don't think the D44s would hold up to that.
