satellite radio basics?

Hey everyone. can I get some information on the basics for satellite radio? i tried searching and there is so much information in so many places I feel like I am over my head here.

What is the best brand to get as far as quality/selection?
How much does it cost per month? Can you just buy a lifetime subscription?
How difficult would it be to connect to a 03 stock head unit?
What would I have to buy in order to make it work?

Any other information or opinions are encouraged and appreciated. please explain it to me like you would explain it to a 3rd grader because my electronics knowledge pretty much is just knowing how to solder wires together and make lights go on when a switch is flipped
