Joined the forum to get some input on a new 2017 tacoma double cab trd off road 4x4. I know there are some complaints with the auto transmission and the 3.5 engine power band--I know the complaints get more publicity than the satisfied owners. I want to hear and get some input from those that are satisfied with the truck and have had no real issues or major complaints. Truck will be a daily driver so I need it to be good to go.

Dude, let's just say I drove a 2017 and it still has vibration issues. I would thourly test drive the truck. Read up about what problems others are having and look for them on the test drive. Make it a lengthy test drive or see if you can take it home for a day. Good luck to you...

Purchased May 5, 2016. No major issues. Transmission fluid was however low from factory. Waiting to get the TSB update for the transmission at my next oil change. Slight delay from reverse to drive at times. Other than that, she's perfect.

Purchased December 2015. Had rear third member replaced and had trans TSB. I love the truck. It's a Toyota.

Bought mine in July....absolutely perfect so far not a thing wrong with it. Love the power it's there when I want it, just need to step on the go pedal a bit because the Transmission will maximize shifts for mileage otherwise. But I like that. Never did I imagine I could get 19.5 MPG in town daily driving like I have been. I have the DCLB TDROR and the ride is so smooth and quiet. Runs tight like an off road truck should. Haven't had it off road yet but plan to do that here next month and hit the desert this coming winter and spring.

All functions and features have worked perfectly so far from the factory. 2100 trouble free miles so far and since its a Toyota I have not doubt most of my miles owning the truck will be trouble free as well. If not that is what my extended warranty is for. Otherwise just love the look and stance, I don't plan to mod a thing other than get some rock sliders for trail insurance. Otherwise she will stay stock.

What ever you decide to do wish you luck. I couldn't be more than happy with my purchase to date.

I have had mine since April and love it, even though I don't have it at the moment since it's in the shop. I have had zero issues with it so far. Hopefully I can get it back here soon, I hate driving a rental

I have had mine since Sept 2015; DCSB TRD OR 4X4 AUTO. I originally loved it, then I joined the forum and disliked it when I found many were getting over 20/24mpg and I was only getting 15/16mpg, and on cruise my transmission shifted from 4 to 5 to 6 to 5 then 4th then the accelerator would be floored and it would jerk forward and stay stuck in 4th at 3000rpm until I took the cruise off. I could not drink a cup of coffee without ever spilling it. In a 50 mile trip to work on Interstate 30 with about 20 overpasses this would happen 50 or 60 times. It was like riding a bucking horse.

I hated my Taco and thought about selling or trading it. Then my wife called me an idiot and told me to get off the forum because I loved my Taco and waited 4 months in 2015 to get one of the 1st 2016s at the dealership. Then I remembered I bought it for the 4x4, the updated interior/technolgy and the reliability.

I learned to NOT use the cruise and the mpg came up. I tested it Off Road tons of times and it THRASHED the other brands when I was one of the few that made it through washed out roads and undrivable terrain.

Then the TSB came out and fixed my transmission. I have 16,500 miles on it and I LOVE my TACO. The update changed the drivability of my truck. My trip to work is 100 miles round trip and I now usually get 19mpg. The cruise works properly and if it downshifts to 4th gear it will switch back to 5th when it should and not stay hung up. I love the interior and the updated electronics. I have taken many 600 mile road trips out of state with it. It drives perfect and I am comfortable with no problems at all. I may not get 24mpg, but I don't care as much anymore as everything else is perfect, and I enjoy driving it everyday.

    LOVE MY TACO

all the complaining I have heard / seen would make me think hard about spending that much for a mid sized truck.

Thanks for this post, Huskert. I'm in similar spot...considering a '17 TRD OR (or PRO) but the complaints have spooked me a little. Is it just low trans fluid, or a real problem? If it's just low, top it off...why complain? I is really underpowered, or just somebody who thinks a stock Taco should take a muscle car off the line? I haven't noticed the random noises, lack of power or bad dealer experiences on my second gen Taco. So I'm inclined to dismiss these complaints. But I don't want to trade my '14 for something they're still working the kinks out of.

Hey look another one of these threads. Good thing it's the morning and no one is drinking yet....or maybe you're still up from last night?

I'm going to hit the trails so this one don't get deleted too.

And to stay on topic, yes I am satisfied with my 3rd gen. I've had every gen Tacoma and liked them all. This one feels a bit under powered but I drive it like a race car anyway. Drive one and form your own opinion OP.

The Tacoma is a nice truck. I would personally wait until 2018 though if you can hold out. The 3rd generation was released a little too quickly, and many are having problems (some serious). I believe Toyota will stand behind their product (at least while there is a waranty), but you may not want to spend all of that money until the bugs are worked out.
