Up in the air, big a$$ tires.
With black rims, a black truck, and a hopeful BHLM it might be a bit much. Just though, as you stated, would stand out. I know I have not seen it. Just looking for a splash of color rather than chrome. Maybe I could do a little photoshop work to show me what it would look like.

Yea, i looked at the triangles from behind and saw lines that look like the mesh base was plastic welded on in factory, and dremeled thru those lines, which cut the mesh base off perfectly, I was pretty surprised cuz it was pretty much a blind cut.

I plan on straight JB welding the steel mesh on cuz my friend and I JB welded a valve on the intercooler for his WRX and if it works for that, it will work for this.

I am going to have an air compressor and a DeVilbiss Finish Line spray gun so I will be able to do factory finish color matching. Paint for spray guns only come in pint and quart size cans so I will only do a batch of same color grilles at a time.

If you are interested in getting your stock chrome grille color matched and recessed with a grille mesh, post your color. The first color to have four nominations I will accept as a batch. Price is $200 + shipping.

If a first gen owner who is in the bay area wants to step up, i'll do it at cost just to see if I can. I dont want to ship a something if its the first time I do it in case I do a shitty job.

Hey thanks for the tip on cutting out those vents. I tried it out on a spare grille today. Much easier!

If it doesnt look sturdy by tomorrow I may add some fiberglass resin as extra glue. That shit cures HARD

Ya I was thinking maybe about using the fiberglass resin. It's just a pain that it's so messy. Let me know how that bondo holds up. It seems like it might want to pop off if you applied some pressure but idk .

So you can't see it from the other side I'm going to assume, if thats the case I might go that route. Attaching it there is the one problem I've had on my grille, thumbs up on the good ideas so far:thumbsup:

I don't know if it would be worth the time or if your material would even let you......but could you fold down the one side of mesh onto the plastic? then you could put the resin over it. Seems like then you might have one side down real good and not have to worry about it coming off. Then the other sides would be down more so for reenforcement

It does look like it might pop off, im most likely gonna reinforce it with fiberglass resin...its harder than the devil's shit.

I was also thinking of plastic welding it with a soldering iron but I need to find some scrap plastic.

I thought about that too, I might try that with the other triangle tomorrow morning. I have a lot of left over mesh...its obscene

I ended up plastic welding the triangles to the grille using excess plastic from the cut and my soldering iron. Its attached pretty solid.
Thanks for the props! Im glad the grille arrived intact and undamaged. Throw some pics up!

Hmm...I'm going to have to look into this plasti welding stuff. Do the tools cost much and is it hard?

I just used my soldering iron, but there are "plastic welders" that cost hundreds of $$$ and IMO isnt worth it. Just get a little piece of plastic, put it between the two objects you want welded together, melt it with the soldering iron and hold the pieces together until it hardens. Its not too hard, but takes concentration and patience.
