Got a question for yall. I'm separating from the military in a few months and am looking at moving to the savannah area and pursuing a job with Gulfstream. Somewhere in the manufacturing/maintenance department as I'm an aircraft maintainer currently for the air force. I'm looking mainly to see if anyone lives in the area, wondering what smaller places I could live within 30 - 45 mins of the airport where I'd potentially be working. I went there once as a kid to deep sea fish but remember nothing about it, although everyone always says it's beautiful. Also, on the off chance anyone here works for Gulfstream I'd have a few questions for them as well.

Thought about Lockheed Martin or Northrop Grumman? Not as scenic of an area, but another viable option career wise.

    You a 2A5?

2A676. I hadn't thought of those. I honestly wasn't planning on going to the civilian side of aviation at all. Was going to go into a wireman apprenticeship in the IBEW. A friend of mine from high school joined a year before me as a sheet metal tech, and he got out last year and now works with Gulfstream. He randomly called me up this week and is the one trying to get me to come down there. I figured I would need my A&P, which is why I never looked into any of them, but turns out they will take 4 years avionics/electrical experience too.

Yeah, wouldn't hurt to look into!

Honestly though I think I'd prefer Savannah over Atlanta any day.

For sure. No way I'd live near Atlanta. Even Savannah is too big for me. I'm looking into what towns are within 30-45 mins of the plant that I could live in. I've had enough of cities in my time on active duty.

I work for Gulfstream and live within a 20 minute drive of the plant. Not in Savannah, but in the next county over. Ask away.

Lockheed Martin is in Marietta and there are plenty of smaller towns within 30-45min of there

Not sure if I'm too late, but Hinesville is a smaller town about an hour away. Pooler is larger than Hinesville, smaller than Savannah.. also closer. Richmond Hill is a suburban-ish area outside of Savannah. Plenty of places within Savannah too where you can get out of the urban sprawl.
