I went to Costco this morning to pickup a tv for grandma. As I was coming out, a gorgeous red 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 drives by me looking for a parking spot. Man that was a good looking truck.

    Toyota might have a problem.

Loaded up it came to $53,700. I don’t know if local dealers are discounting those, but the truck looked really good. 2024 is going to be a competitive year. Being first to buy a Tacoma and paying over MSRP seems foolish to me. Especially after seeing the ZR2 this morning.

I’m sure this topic will end well.

I agree that there are lots of great options, and if people go into it with an open mind (see: don’t look at the Colorado based on your 1993 Cavalier owner experience) it will be wonderful.

I’ve never even considered a Ford or Chevy since my last one in 1989. This is the first truck from them that looked really good to me. Looks count.

Zr2 is the best looking midsize out there by a wide margin

Go look at the coloradofans forums, they've got some issues. Might wanna look at the curb weight as well. My 17 zr2 was awesome but an unreliable piece of shit.

Hence the reason I haven’t owned anything from the big three in forever. They really need to work on quality and reliability. They could kick ass if they ever nailed it.

See them more and more running around here, definitely best looking mid-size. Unfortunate no 6’ bed, but could make the 5’ work if I had to. Like the interior better too.

Would do the Trail Boss if given the choice. Factory lift, 32” tires…good enough for me.

391 ft/lbs of t-o-r-q-u-e too. Not that I need that, but would be a hoot if I do…

    Make mine silver.

It's definently no competition on paper, the colorado dominates. Even in magazine tests it wins. Front locker and bigger tire size is worth alot to me. Resale value is my hang up.

Someone in my hood has a silver at4x and it is nice looking. It has been missing for a few days though so I need to stop by and see if it is the shop or what.

I was looking at reviews and it’s generally positive. Though there has been reported issue with the Turbomax head gaskets, timing belts, and few other things. Supposedly a 4% failure rate. The biggest complaint is sub-par fuel economy. Of course longevity and resale value are not even close to Toyota. It is a good looking truck. If it’s not something you plan on hanging onto for many years, probably a non issue but you take a big hit with depreciation.

It might look good but if she's not reliable, i don't have any use for it.

If you like the 391 lb-ft of torque, then you'll like this even more: 2024 Trail Boss comes standard with 430 lb-ft of torque. They're including the 2023 optional upgrade as standard starting next year.

The Chevy 2.7 doesn't use a timing belt? Do you have any sources on head gasket failures? That's news to me and I'd like to learn more.

The 2.7 has 5 years of successful full-size duty under its belt and looks to be a winner. And Colorado forum owners report better than EPA MPG (see below). I've never owned a Chevy, but as an outsider looking in, I think Chevy knocked it out of the park with this engine. Is it class leading for fuel economy? Nope. But for the amount of power the engine is putting out, and the fact it's pushing some very heavy and boxy shapes around, it's doing alright. I'm not going to be a Chevy advocate or anything, but I think they deserve credit where it's due.

I love competition. When people rollover and buy whatever a brand puts out regardless of value/quality/whatever, that drives down competitive pressure on the manufacturer. Personally, I look at each purchase individually and buy the option that makes the most sense for me. Chevy and Ford are putting serious pressure on Toyota and it shows, and that's awesome. Toyota has to respond or risk losing the market. They can only count on loyalists for so long, and eventually they'll lose to manufacturers putting in more effort to please customers.

I'm seriously looking at the Tacoma as well as the Land Cruiser, but I'm going to also look as seriously at the Colorado ZR2 and Ranger Raptor. Toyota has to earn my business.
