Only new Chevy's worth a shit are the Suburban's. Their trucks are trash and have been going downhill for more than a decade. They still sell well because the of the yeeyee crowd.

I spent some time in a newer Colorado while one of my cars was being fixed - (I had both my Tacoma and this Colorado at the same time. My other car was rear ended and being fixed, and the insurance company gave me a rental), and I felt it wasn’t that great. It had 55k miles (rental miles, but still), and the transmission slipped in 1st and 2nd. It drove a little rough and would miss fire a little when cold. The interior felt a little loose and well-worn.

I felt the only thing I preferred over my Tacoma was the key (I think the Tacoma key is way too flimsy and cheap feeling). Having a metal bed may be nice too but it’s not like people really push the capacity of their beds in midsize trucks.

Also notice the two different color mirrors. This Colorado probably had a pretty rough life.

Well my mom had an 82’ Chevette and it was a POS so all new Chevys are also POS’s. This Toyota fan boi stuff is hilarious. We have no idea how reliable the 4th Gen Tacoma will be but everyone thinks it’s better than all the other manufacturers. o_O

I would never give GM a nickel of of my money. I don’t care how any of there stuff looks. I have been burnt by their products too many times . The only thing that’s good about them and some of the other companies is competition . But as far as I’m concerned I would only consider Toyota or Nissan as far as a mid size truck . They have both been good to me and until that changes I see no reason to deviate.

Toyota lost the horsepower race before it even started, and we don't know the long-term quality of the 4th gen yet, so it's all speculation.

I understand that. My point was if the last one wasn’t great, I can’t imagine the new one as being any better. Build quality/ reliability is what makes the Colorado bad, not the on paper performance and value.

Some people think that Chevy can make a vehicle better quality, or more reliable, by making them look nicer or adding more power.

It’s like putting lipstick on a Pig lol. The funny thing is I gave GM so many chances too. I would read about the latest stuff in the reviews . How much better they were , all the nice stiff they had and it did lots of times look great and then …..issues , early on. Then 50:, 60, 70 k miles real problems . Then of course the dealer didn’t want to know me, including corporate. So what do you do ? You end up dumping it and loose your shirt because there value tanks. And why does it tank? Because most people know they are probably going to be a disaster as the mileage creeps up. I think if you are a lease person and are going to give it back at the end of the lease , then it doesn’t matter , go for what ever looks good to you .

Have you been in any new GM vehicles? They really aren’t that inspiring. I didn’t say the 4th gen would be reliable, but that the old Colorado wasn’t great so I don’t see the new one being great.

So by that logic my current Tacoma has a shitty motor, so I don’t see the new Tacoma being that impressive.

I took Caltrain to the 49ers game yesterday and saw 2 or 3 2024 Tacomas behind the dealership in Burlingame, CA. The train gives you a good view behind the scenes. Best looking new truck by a mile. Better seeing the real thing than pictures and videos. I know the 3rd generation had its problems but there is no way I would take any Chevy or Ford over a Taco. My 2016 is 8 years old (70,000 miles) without a single problem. My son’s 2005 Off Road AC has almost 300,000 miles and is the only truck that gets back to the main road when his ranch snows in. To me Toyota is a no brainer.

I certainly won't discount people's bad experiences. They happen and they're unfortunate when they do. In my own experience, the Colorado was an option our field engineers could choose from, and many of them did. We had a little over 40 of the prior gen Colorado trucks running around North America at any given time, and they would rack up around 120,000 miles before they'd be auctioned off and replaced with new ones. No major issues. The interiors were cheap and the ride was rough, but they dependably did their job. If they didn't, I would have eliminated the option and switched to a different brand/model. That simple.

I ignore the "such and such brand is junk" comments because they're just meaningless emotional statements. You'll hear negative opinions about any brand out there, Toyota included. It's to be expected for any loyalist/enthusiast site for any of the brands. Loyalists will jump all over issues of other brands while simultaneously ignoring or minimizing the issues their preferred brand/model is encountering. Rusted out frames bending a truck in half? "No big deal, the engine is 'bullet proof'." Dead turbo? "Ah, that's a small minority." Leaking engine seals? "Just maintenance." "But that other brand has a transmission that clunks when down shifting. What a piece of junk!!" And on and on and on. Their ego becomes wrapped up with a brand and drives their cognitive dissonance.

The 2.4T drivetrain is brand new and none of us, including the Toyota engineers, can guarantee it'll be as robust as some of their other engines. Ask Toyota for a 200K warranty if they're so confident in their design and see how that goes. Early buyers will be guinea pigs. You can ask some of the Tundra owners how that's working out for them. Toyota has a solid and well-deserved reputation for drivetrain dependability, but it's largely based on old engines and proven tech that simply requires sticking to known manufacturing and assembly tolerances.

We're venturing into the unknown. I prefer to go in eyes wide open. And I'm okay with a repair here and there if the overall ownership is excellent, whether that's a Toyota or a different brand. Dependability is but one criteria. I'd rather pay for a couple of repairs over the life of a vehicle that excites me, rather than drive a dependable vehicle I loath.

Excellent points. My 2016 was first year of 3rd generation, but I got the proven 2.7 engine because I don’t tow. It has been perfect for 8 years. The AT took some getting used to, but that truck has proven itself in my book. I might just keep it for that reason. But the lure of a new truck is pretty strong and this 4th generation looks awesome. That can overwhelm better judgment. The availability of a MT in a SR is a strong selling point. Time will tell if the new power train is ok and you know we will hear all about it on this forum.
