4G is overpriced, over styled "lifestyle" truck. Toyota USA dropped the ball, they lost me as a new truck buyer. Im gonna take good care of my 3G so it lasts at least another 20 years.

They took away items that were standard on 3G TRD models such as, dual climate control, power rear sliding glass (2017+), full size spare (all 3Gs) but jacked the price like crazy. You gotta get "premium" package just to get dual climate and power rear window, what a joke. Quality went downhill as well.

4G is also less capable off-road. Low hanging rear suspension and exhaust. Longer wheelbase equals worse offroad, 2nd and 3rd gens already have terrible brake over and departure angles. Did i mention a shitty donut spare? :) Wtf toyota

Payload is still pathetic. Why even bother with all this new frame and all this talk about this new TGNA-F platform. What a fail. Rear seats are still cramped, no improvements there. Interior is made for folks who appreciate a heated steering wheel. Exterior is way overdone and what the heck is happening at the rear bedside?

Whats up with these gimmicky PRO seats. Whos idea was that? They take up already useless rear leg room making rear seats unusable. PRO is not any more capable than a 4x4 TRD OR. PRO doesnt even have extended travel shocks in the front, even though Toyota advertised the PRO having 3" wider stance... Achieved by wheel offset. Wow cool.

Engine looks more powerful on paper, sure. Although Ive got zero complaints in the power department on the 3.5L. I use my truck for work, I tow and carry heavy loads all the time and my truck is modified. Ive seen like 3-4 4Gs up here and thats it, the writing is on the wall. Nobody wants these overpriced trucks. A lot of Tacoma fans are pissed and are going to other manufacturers. Tons of 2nd and 3rd gens around here, see them on every corner.

Im not sure who were they trying to target when they designed this overpriced begemoth.

Once the transmissions fixed it’ll be the end of it. Front timing cover was an issue since 2005.

It’s not a small seep for a lot of people, the trans will be resolved and it’s a very small amount that are having this issue

I wonder how I am able to use my truck for work, tow, and carry heavy loads. Took numerous road trips through mountain passes, i dont know how we survived... Yeah, That shitty 3.5.... :)

    You guys crack me up.

I understand you paid way too much for this shiny new thing. Its alright.

3G is basically 2G just with different engine and trans. I have no clue why so many folks lost their minds.

4G on the other hand... is now a luxury pick up for folks who appreciate a heated steering.

No full size spare, gimmicky PRO seats, took away things that were standard on TRD 3G models, longer wheelbase, low hanging rear suspension and exhaust (worse offroad), 4cyl turbo, price... etc.

    back to bone stock.
the 4th gen went back to the spin on/off canister oil filter, and that is a WIN!

my 2023 oil change is less enjoyable. at least for now. until muscle memory kicks in.

Toyota said it. You could have stopped at "no idea what TNGA is" because it's obvious you haven't been paying any attention to what Toyota has been doing or why. Your precious 4.0 is a dead man walking, even if you refuse to believe in staggered product launches.

TNGA-F is the Toyota New Global Architecture, F, which is the architecture being shared between the 4Runner, Tacoma, Land Cruiser, GX, Tundra, Sequoia, and LX. As a result, much greater parts interchangeability and many shared systems. The Tacoma, 4Runner, and Land Cruiser are getting the turbo 2.4, with or without hybrid. The Tundra, Sequoia, GX, and LX are getting the TTV6.

Honestly, lots of stuff. Full time 4WD with a locking center diff vs part time vs 2wd, the hybrid system that adds tons of power and torque, locking differentials, skid plates, auxiliary power systems, MTS/Crawl control, custom high quality low volume seats vs standard cloth, up spec suspension (coils vs leaves, let alone shock tuning and fanciness), extra sound deadening, multi zone automatic HVAC, high tech mirrors, interior surfaces finished in nicer materials, even up-spec glass that absorbs noise well, there's tons of stuff. Sure the frame, engine, trans, etc. is similar but there's LOADS of features between say an SR Tacoma and a TRD Pro or Trail Hunter. Not to say it's without extra profit margin, but that it's very easy for it to not be the same truck.

Yeah there's lots of little things that start to add up that you'd just never think on, but I'm sure if you test drove them knowing they could be there, you'd be able to see what was or wasn't equipped on a given vehicle. I'd bet many dollars the GX feels like $80k rolling down the road if you hopped out of an SR Tacoma, and I'd bet a lot more dollars that a 61k Sequoia feels positively barren and bereft of life after being massaged by the massaged, heated rear seats of the LX600 ultra luxury at 134k(!)

They're stupidly expensive across the board, but I'm betting prices drop (or rather, don't inflate so hard) as the new platform amortizes itself and the market catches up.

According to the Toyota Compare chart:
    24 pro vs 23 pro-

24 weighs in at damn near 700# more than the 23
24 less headroom, leg room and hip room than 23
    24 smaller gas tank
    24 same ground clearance
    24 less towing capacity
24 damn near $20k higher msrp

….I still love the looks of the 24, though I think it could have been a little more competitive equipment wise

edit: the Toy chart does have the 24 ranger Raptor to compare
