I have been throwing around the idea of getting a scan guage or not i like it better than an ultra guge. i have done a good bit of research on here and else where but my main question is, Is it worth the $150-160? Is it something im gonna buy and then a month later wish i would of just held on to the money. Any input would be great Thanks! This will be going on my 2011 Tacoma.

People use the scanguage for a variety of reasons. It has many features.... So it all depends on what you want it for.

I've had mine for many years. I can't say I use mine much at all....It sits there and I watch the MPG's and the DTE (distance to empty) primarily.

I think its worth it.... It's just a shame these trucks don't have this information at our fingertips from the factory.

I like the fact that it can read trouble codes. I should be able to hook it up to any vehicle and read trouble codes.....It's kinda like having AAA .....invisible feature that you hope you'll never need to use, but its there in case you do.

For me its just an expensive trouble code reader. I had it in my truck a few months and too it out. Then had an Ultra Gauge and ultimately sold that. I've contemplated selling the scan gauge too but have just kept it around in the even I meed to read a CEL.

Ironically, I've had two airbag lights go on since I purchased mine (those can't be reset/read by the Scangauge) so I've never used it for anything other than informational purposes.

Enough people value them as a sort of insurance that you'll more than likely be able to unload yours at only a small loss if you don't find it's worth the money you invested.

FWIW, over the years of ownership, it tells you enough about saving gas via your driving habits that it will probably pay for itself. At least that's been the case with me.

I like my scanguage and it works well.

That said, if you have an android phone/tablet, you can get a bluetooth OBDII reader and Torque for about 30-40 bucks.

It's one of the best investments I've made. It really depends on how involved in the workings of your truck you want to be. You can learn a lot. You can establish baselines for normal operation which can help diagnose trouble later. You can learn a lot about fuel consumption. I do a lot of traveling so I use the "distance to empty" pretty often. If you take the time to accurately calibrate it, the data you get out is surprisingly accurate. You can calibrate the speed and have a truly accurate speedometer. It's also of course a code reader. I don't have to plug anything in, it's all at my fingertip. I wouldn't have a vehicle without one. The utility should be standard on every vehicle IMO. Whether it is worth it to you, I can't say.

Here's the website to check out its features.
    http://www.scangauge.com/

Older units (such as mine) do NOT read tranny temps and don't do other things because of the out-dated firmware. Sure - I could upgrade, but its not on my priority list right now.

I got lucky and found one in the Marketplace for $100 shipped. It's been very helpful in showing me how best to drive for improved fuel economy. All the other features will be useful at some point over the life of using it. It's a tech gadget and may not be for everyone.

I had an Ultragauge in my other car to monitor a lot of things that I didn't want to buy separate gauges for. In the taco on the first page I watch RPM, MPG's, engine temp, intake temp, exhaust temp, and batt volts. A little OCD but whatever.

I just picked one up earlier this week.

It's a pretty cool tool. I like the instant/AVG MPG read out. I would try to find it on sale if possible. I paid $159.99 from Amazon.

I bought one from AutoZone.com using a 20% off code. It's a nice tool, but I will not recommend ordering from AutoZone.com ... I'd much rather spend a little extra and order from Amazon.
