I just recently bought a used scan gauge 2 from a friend. Is there a video out there that can explain how to customize the gauge to read volts, oil temp, water temp and transmission temp.

It seems there is a lot this tiny monitor can do

    Here you go:

There's other threads that will tell you the actual codes for the transmission temp though

Is scan gauge any better than the Fusion app?

IMO yes. It’s on the entire time you’re driving so you can monitor stuff in real time as opposed to only when the app is open.

OP here’s where I have mine mounted. I tried a couple places and this is my favorite. Ran the cord through the AC vent. You have limited adjustability of the vent, but it hasn’t been an issue for me yet.

Yes...I forget what the code was but I have mine setup to read the transmission temp. If you get on Scan Gauge's email, they were pretty good on helping set up my Scan Gauge 2

Can it monitor Torque converter temps or just pan temps? I have the pan temp already but I can't find the torque converter code.

I have been running both temps for 6 years now.
    Fantastic resource for towing.
I named them CTT and PTT.
The RXD for CTT is 3808 and for PTT is 2808.
TXT, RXF, and MTH are the same for both contrary to what the scanguage website showed back then.
    I never looked recently tho.
I can give you the other 3 numbers if you need them.
    Cheers
    Ray

Awesome, I appreciate it man. I can’t find the torque converter codes on the site nowadays. I’ll give it a shot tomorrow and see what happens

Many of the functions you list like water temp are standard whilst some, like transmission temp, need to be programmed via Xcodes. ScanGauge has good directions on their site how to do that. Another really handy one, IMO, is individual tire pressures which also requires programming via Xcodes. Natively it just reports them as TP1, 2, 3, 4... but you can bleed a little air to see which is which and then rename the data field accordingly. I mount mine right on the steering column above the steering wheel.
