Just a simple question. I've got the scratch to purchase a ScanGauge II but it would be taking cash out of my build/lift fund. I plan on having both a ScanGauge and lift eventually. If it was up to you which would you purchase first?

Save your money and get an Ultragauge.

Ultragauge is cheaper but doesn't monitor transmission temps.

Aww bummer, that's something they have to do at the factory? I figured that would be doable from home.

I do a fair amount. Mainly a camper or a medium sized utility trailer. As far as the UG vs the SG goes tanny temp isn't my only reason for choosing the SG. Its smaller size and choices as far as mounting locations are deciding factors too. Plus, and this is my superficial side coming out but I just like it's simplistic design as well.

Then yes I would definitely install it before, you will be happy you had all the baseline data before the lift if you choose to do any before/after comparing, instead of just trying to guess and remember. get where Im coming from?

    Both good questions.

The link on post #6 show how to get a free upgrade if you own a 2005 or newer tacoma. Other than that the upgrade is $25 bucks and well worth it. You must have version 4.02 to make it work. I have it and it averages around 165-175 degrees but I have reached temps of 225 when running in the sand dunes. I just wonder at what temp the transmission overheats?

IMHO the scanguage will give you a good baseline prior to the lift ..after the lift the scanguage will tell you how much the lift cost you in Gas = :(

I love my scanguage though..and my stereo and lift and tires..its an addiction man - always improving

It took 8 days and that included shipping both ways. They sent me a tracking number the very next day after it arrived. They did however send me a different unit (actually in better shape than the original), this was my second upgrade for this unit and after this one I gave my Ultra Gauge away. No comparison between the two.
