I did some research on my own based off other people's comments. The Torque Pro app has a lot going for it. I think my wife has a small laptop I can use for it. I really like how the display can be changed up.

I wonder if any of these devices can correct mph readings due to incorrect tire and gear combos?

I’m digging that. Might be worth picking up a used android tablet.

I used to rely on the Torque Pro on my Android, but I got tired of it tying up my phone and having to manually turn the app on every time I got into the truck.

I went back and forth between the UG and SG a number of times while developing the 2ng Gen mounting brackets, and I really prefer having the dedicated device that's always on when the truck is on, off when the truck is off, and is not tying up my phone.

As for the choice between the two, they are both great, so I think in many ways it's a personal choice. The UG is cheaper, and displays more gauges at one time than the SG does. But its buttons are on the back, which is more difficult to reach. I chose the UG for my truck primarily because it has audible alarms, which the SG does not.

As for mounting them in the Tacoma, we developed some pretty cool brackets, which you can see in my signature. They place the gauges right in your view and don't obstruct the road at all, unlike all the other mounting schemes I've seen.

I absolutely love having the UG, even though my favorite part of it has become the "gallons remaining", which is dead accurate after calibration.

Yes, you can calibrate them to adjust for tire and gearing changes.

The UG physical gauge (as opposed to UG Blue) does not have options for changing colors. SG does have a few options, such as green, blue, purple, red, etc.

With SG, you can also do custom colors to a certain extent.

Anybody with an ultragauge: does the cable detach from the back? From product photos and videos it looks like its permanently molded into the unit but I'd like to confirm. The ability to use the gauge to check codes for other vehicles is appealing to me. I can see that the scangauge has that feature and they sell extra cables. I like the look of the ultragauge better, but ultimately if its a PITA to take it out to use on other vehicles I'll probably get a scangauge. Thx

The UG cable is molded into the gauge, it is not removable. You can take the entire assembly and move it from vehicle to vehicle, but like you said, if the cable is well routed behind trim panels, that is a bit of a pain.

One huge bonus of the UG (in my opinion) is the ability to set up audible alarms for any parameter. Since you can't monitor your gauges full time, it's nice to get an alarm in case a coolant hose blows, before your motor seizes.

Love UG but that aspect of it was a PITA. Switched to the UG bluetooth version. Love it.

Ultragauge Blue questions. What is the newest Android version it will work with, example Andriod 9, 10, or 11???

Will the adapter work with the any apps other than than the Ultragauge android app??

I have not used my Ultragauge blue for several years. At that time I could not get the adapter to work with any other apps, it only worked with the Ultragauge app.

Thanks a bunch for any help, I'm not sure where I put my adaptor at the movement as been a several years.

I just checked the app, it seems the last update of the Ultragauge Blue for Android was in 2018 about the time of Android 8, Android 9 being released around September of 2018 if I'm correct.

My Utlragauge Blue didn't work after Google released a new version of Android. The Ultragauge app was updated basically at same time as Google releasing the next new version of Android . Yep, my Ultragauge Blue worked briefly between the versions of Android breaking the Ultragauge Blue again. I really liked the Ultragauge Blue when it worked, some times you just cant win. LOL

Prior to purchasing the UltraGauge Blue I purchased the regular Ultragauge. My Ultragauge always displayed an overheated warning when first starting the engine when the vehicly was parked outside with a temperature of 80 degrees or above. Basically that ultragauge was only useful during winter months.. Thus the reason I purchased the ultragauge blue.

I'm pretty much done purchasing any more of their products. The Ultragauge Blue seemed perfect for me as it could work all year long, assuming the Ultragauge app was updated in a timely manor. I will look for the adaptor, if there is a good chance of getting it working again.

Had my Scangague for ~8 years. Just had the firmware updated (you have to send it in) to activate the newest xgauges to include TFT (transmission temperature). That one makes doing an auto trans drain and fill easy peasy and I like monitoring it as one of the 4 displayed parameters.

Now you can monitor tire pressures too, but it’s a pain to switch between different readouts.

Thanks Raylo, I assume you responded to my post and use an Ultragauge but typed Scangauge by misrake?

I'll look for the adaptor, hopefully it works with Android 11. If the adapter works with Android 10, I believe it will work with Android 11.

Do you happen to know what version of android is running on your device?

I believe my adaptor firmware updated a couple times using my phone. I also thought I had the trans temp and engine temp displayed in the gauges I setup. I must be mistaken. I remember when someone discovered a code to manually activate the trans temp in the regular type of Ultragauge.. My Ultragauge was to old by then. I did try to use the code with my Blue version. Either I couldn't get it to work or couldn't find a way to enter the code..

It seems very likely I purchased my Blue version 7 or 8 years ago but i'm not 100% positive.
