They still havent found a way to get the Toyota ECM to allow multiple commands from the Scangauge.

IF it did, you'd have a sale. I've been waiting for the upgrade or Scangauge 3 to do just that...I'm sure it will be major news on this site when it does.

No problem, I knew you were just wondering, like hundreds of other Toyota owners. The manuafacture knows you guys are waiting, but they just havent figured out a work a round yet.

I'm sorry, but no plans for a Scangauge 3 any time in the near future. The Xgauge feature just about covers the Scangauge 2's abillities for some time to come. Instead of coming out with a #3, they can just release new code for the customer to input as they need it. The #2 also has the Cat 5 interface. If they can ever figure out a way to incorp some Windows software that would be hacker proof ( so a hacker cant steal the Scangauge's proprietary software ), the #2 is ready for hooking it up to your computer. Once that is done, any updates could be made by the end user, as needed. Until then, if a new software version comes out that is so great you just have to have it, your current Scangauge can be updated by the manufacture for a $25 fee ( pays for the labor to update it and priority mail shipping back to you ).

So as you can see, if your waiting for the 3 to come out, your waiting for a long time. You should get a Scangauge2, and enjoy the rest of the features, until then.

 

Do I need the extra cable?

 

That is up to you. You get one for normal hookup. But say you spent 15-20 mins routing the cable so it was well hidden. Then, you buddy comes over and ask's you to hook the Scangauge up and read a trouble code for him. You have to unroute the cable, then reroute it again when your done.

Some people buy an extra cable, so they have the choice to use the Scangauge somewhere else without unrouting the cable each time.
