@EddyRRT whst springs would you recommend since your bumper will be on front with winch and some sliders? 650?

 

Need some help, gents, wife and kids are moving up north when I deploy in Jan. Looking for a good tire that can make the trip from here to Chicago to Minot, ND. Obviously will be on Highway the entire time and dealing w/ mountains and/or snow. Don't think my maxwell bighorn are gonna be the best choice for this trip plus while my wife drives the truck in snowy conditions while I'm gone....

So...good highway/snowy tires that won't break the bank. GO!

Also, I currently have 33s, but would buy a different size if need be (like 35s)

 

Duratracs are supposed to behave alright in the snow. And I've heard good things about the st maxx. If I were to go at it would probably be st maxx

 

I've got the ST MAxx, not sure how they are in snow yet but they are very quiet on road and good in mud

 

That's easy. Just lookup top 5 AT snow tires. Bfg A/T KO.

 

Been running them on my fully locked pre runner for years. Usually hit snow around thxgiving/Christmas and have zero issues with some weight in the bed. Made it thru 14 inches of snow in indiana 2 yrs back. White knuckle from ft wayne to Asheville but I made it in one piece. I belive they have the snowflake symbol on them so they are rated for snow. Drop some psi, let the side lugs dig in and go.

 

About how much weight did you use?

 

well. I'd say I have 300 lbs with my tiregate/spare tire and toolbox with recovery gear. And I would toss in 2/50lb bags of playsand. So roughly 400lbs total.

 

I can tell you being locked full time obviously can be a bit tricky in the snow. I'm kinda glad it only has the 2.7. But you still gotta work that skinny pedal.

 

I don't have any extra weight but that is about what I was thinking about using. I don't know how my tires will do, though. I'm 2.7 also. But one thing about the TrueTrac is that it is supposed to do great in the snow verses fully locked. I've heard that can be a bear.

 

Mulch is dirt cheap as well. Can't remember the weight but they stack nice. And you can break open a few bags to help get unstuck in a pinch.

 

Dropping the truck off at SEO early this morning. Hoping enterprise has a 392 hemi challenger for me.

 

Every time we have snow I'll load my weight set plates in the bed.....around 500lb of plates fill the bed tightly to where they won't even slide around. I'm seriously thinking about going with AT tires next. Both sets of my MT's had feathering issues on the inner & outer edges while the centers wear evenly.

 

Well folks, I have good/ bad news. I have received orders to PCS (move away for you non military folks) and where I am headed, it would appear my 2wd beauty will be all but useless. That being said, I am looking at probably selling my truck in the coming months. Thought I would put it out on here before I tried to go to the stealerships. If you would like info on it just PM me. Yeah 650 would be good without a winch. If you don't mind it being a little stiff and your gonna run a winch go with 700
