I tried the pond down the road this morning for about an hour. No dice. There were some huge top water hits just out of my casting range. I was on my way to work on the new house, so I didn't have much time, and didn't want to have to get in the water.

I was throwing my 9' 7wt with top water poppers. It's an ECHO ION. Very nice rod/reel combo for the price.

I was out an hour ago in a pond that I slay bluegill in and I tried a new rabbit fur streamer looking thing that I tied up identical to one I bought awhile ago except I used real rabbit fur and it wasn't bright red and artificial black and that is supposed to be for catching bass. I kept getting hit but I couldn't hook anything

I think the tail is too long and the blue gills are sucking in the tail and can't (for lack of better words) deep throat it enough to get to the hook

That shrimp pattern would be interesting with a little more shimmer to it.

I think that was my problem this morning. I had a bunch of hits, but I think they were striking at the tail, and not taking the hook.

Stupid pan fish, with their stupid little mouths.
