Scepter MFC mount on the flat on a basket ? Anyone done it ?

Yeah , I could get 10 of them and cover my whole roof and haul about 4 gallons

Scepter MFC's are the bomb , zero leak issues

 

Made a mock up to check the sizes before commiting it to aluminum

Something like this is on my vacation project list though I use Jerry Cans. However, I don't intend on moving the cans. Instead, I plan on using a super siphon to transfer from the can to my tank. That way, I don't have to worry about fill spouts or lifting at an odd angle above my head. I've got a trick back so throwing it out on the trail would suck.

 

How are you going to hook up the siphon with the can flat on it's side ? or do you mean travel with it flat and stand it up when you want to use the siphon ?

 

Haven't figured that part out yet.

My "idea" depends largely on if and what type of tool box I get. While I don't particularly like took boxes as they use up bed space, I equally hate storing my recovery gear and such in the cab.

If I get a tool chest, I'll have enough room on either side to built a rack that will hold a Jerry Can on one side and a MFC water can on the other vertically. If I get a cross-bed box, I'll do the same thing near the tailgate. Either way, a super siphon will allow me to refuel without moving the fuel can.

 

Just an FYI for anyone else trying to make a mount for the Scepter MFC , it was somewhat warm and sunny here today so I purposely left my 1/2 full MFC out in the sun for a couple hours while I mowed the lawn

As you can see the can expands slightly , overall thickness when fully expanded measured at approx 7 5/8"
