Hi, I was wondering what it took for you to get your dealer to do the “special operating conditions” part of our free scheduled maintenance services? Mine doesn’t seem to ever want to do it even though I tow a trailer and drive off road often with my truck. Did you have to get prior Toyota approval or just ask the service advisor? Thanks!

Warranty work is fixing something broken.

Are you asking about the *free* service work they do? Like oil change intervals?

I understand what 'severe duty' or 'special operating conditions' means.

Exactly what are you expecting them to do? What's covered in the 'freebies' package you have?

If I understand correctly, he means things like oil changes at 5k instead of 10k.

They won’t cover it. Ask all you want but it’s futile.

The Toyota Care package of complimentary maintenance only covers "standard" operating conditions. It's listed somewhere in their fine print. Generally speaking, anything in the special operating conditions maintenance that's above and beyond standard must be paid for out-of-pocket.

Ah, I didnt see that clause but the special operating conditions listed at the bottom of the service interval lists in the service book include checking and tightening chassis bolts, greasing fittings, etc. When I ask for that to be done, the service advisors either dont know what Im talking about or dont list it on the maintenance order and I usually have to ask again when they say my truck is done and wait and watch while they do it. I havent been asked to pay yet for it though. it just seems like they really try to weasle out of it because they think it is part of the free service.

I guess if it really is not free, I should just shut up and keep asking for it so they dont start charging me if I make too many waves about it... ;)

That used to be called “oil, lube, and filter change” and those services you described used to be done. Somehow it has changed to “oil, rotate tires, fill washer fluid”. They don’t do what they used to anymore for reasons.

For me, it was easy. Dont talk at all about severe service or anything.
Just ask them to do the 10k service, even though I had 5010 miles on the odo. They didn't blink twice or even ask why...

(I did it as I only put on about 6k miles per year, so I will be out of time before mileage on the Toyota care).

Of course this doesnt necessarily cover chassis bolts, etc. But get oil change...

When I was getting my Pro Wheels and Wildpeaks installed at the Dealer they wanted to do the free scheduled maintenance, I declined would rather do myself.

It says in the manual in the middle of the paragraph.
Repeated low speed driving ie:City Driving
That describes 75% of drivers on the road today.
Spells out pretty clearly 5k mile oil changes and most every car on the road will fall into that category.
Don’t think for one minute you take your truck in with a knock of some sort they won’t use that to deny coverage.
They have cars catching fire and they are denying coverage because they say the car was driven to fast???
Lots easier just to change oil than try and drive 10k miles just to be “right”
