OK, so my 2019 Tacoma is coming up for its (free) 20K service interval within the next few weeks (I've been driving the wheels off it) at the dealership. Its an oil change and tire rotation. With the Covid-19 situation, I'm contemplating just changing the oil myself and skipping the rotation for now. Anyone else in a similar situation? Not sure I want strangers sitting in my vehicle in the short term. Highly unlikely to have a problem but....

Most of us change it ourselves anyway. It's better if u change it. I changed mine last week and noticed a torn ball joint boot

I went in for service last week...they wiped interior surfaces down and exterior door handles with disinfectant...the truck was cleaner than when I came in.

I just did my 20k service and it will be the last Toyota care I do because I don’t drive a lot and my two years is up in less than six months.
They said I needed to change the air filters and do alignment but I passed on both.
I said I am a mechanic and know how to do most services and can tell if I need alignment (which I did not).
Also said that they will disinfect the truck for 29.95 but also passed on that too. I’d rather not have people poking around in the cab.
Oil change and tire rotation in two hours and I was out of there.

have you changed the oil in it before? if not better check out some threads here on doing it. it's nothing like changing the oil on a 2nd gen.
starting with NOT draining the fluid from the tranny by mistake.

I have 2 years free service from the dealer which I do use just make sure to check your truck before and after the service to make sure if something is off.

Had my 20k service done last week at the dealership. No frills, no fuss, and the new oil was so clean I had to bring the dipstick closer to my eyes to see it!

At my dealership, they’re wearing gloves, masks, and covering the seats. Good enough for me.

I don't take my vehicles into the dealership unless there's no other solution, Covid-19 or not.

If there was ever a time to take advantage of something that was free, I’d do it.

Check before leaving the lot... Ive had 6 appointments to my local dealer (there are only 2, and they both suck) but ive had to return for them to re-do what they did 3 times... they have a 50% failure rate right now with my truck, but I have no choice on warranty work but to go to them. When warranty is up, fuck them, ill fix it myself.

The most recent one, they didnt put the lock back on my drain valve, didnt clean up the oil mess under the truck and they cross threaded a skid plate bolt. I took it back and they put the lock back on, cleaned up the oil and jambed the bolt further in.. I had to remove it my self, re-tap the threads and then put it in correctly.

lol, I would of never noticed if they had tightened it all the way, the skid plate was banging around the whole time.

Tire rotation is as simple as loosening 24 lug nuts, rolling tires around and tightening 24 lug nuts. If you can change a tire you can rotate them.

How does that affect warranty if you change it yourself ?

As long as you follow the maintenance schedule your warranty will stay valid. If you are worried about future claims keep receipts showing the date and mileage that maintenance was performed.

My 18 month was due last month. Not going to take it in until we are cleared. Maybe by then Toyota will have worked out the fuel pump recall and I can get both done.
