I wash the sheets and the pillow cases together. Otherwise it can over load the washer. But there's no harm in washing them with your regular clothes.

My dorms washing machines are messed up, you can flick pennies into the coin return and it takes them as quarters, so it would only cost me 6 cents more to wash/dry my bed sheets separately.

No thanks on the flannel sheets. Way too hot for me. I can't stand to be hot when I'm sleeping. I keep my ceiling fan on high even in the winter and turn the thermostat down to about 65 at night. When I first met my girlfriend and found out she likes the temp the same and the fan on high, I knew she was a keeper.

Just go feel some sheets at the store. Most of the time higher thread count sheets are better, however it also depends on the material. Also, after washing them a few times and using fabric softener they will get softer.

Higher thread count also means more durable, not just softer. Higher quality.

Another very important note: If you have a pillow top, make sure the pockets are deep enough to fit them. Mine is 15 inches so it wasn't easy finding sheets when I first got the mattress set last year.

There is also sheets made out of the same material as t-shirts. Theyre pretty soft and could be a good alternative to flannel for you southerners. I rock flannels in the winter, but it's about 10 outside, and I keep the house about 59-61.

    Yes.
Most sheets these days are "fit mattresses up to 18" deep." I think. At least for king.

I bought them when I was single, they seemed like the least gay option. And they turned out to be really nice.
