    Get a good trigger, it will make a big difference. If you reload Berger bullets are the most accurate I have found.

    I'm aware of that but just because it isn't classified as a hunting Bullet doesn't mean it's not effective on game. The 123gr amax and 80.5gr Berger are two of the most devastating bullets I've ever seen. Neither of which are "hunting bullets".

    "Long range" is really determined by the ballistics of the caliber being used. For example, if you are shooting up to and beyond the max effective distance of .223, you are shooting long range. 1000 yards may be long range for the .308, but not so much for the .300 Win Mag. 200 yards is long range for a .22.

    If you're shooting nice tight groups at 300 with your .308, then chances are that will do fine farther out as long as you understand your ballistics.
