I did go to therapy for a couple of weeks but I was still in pain...the chiro recommended me some stretches that I have been doing...but I'm starting to realize that its a waiting game...its just I'm afraid it will come back to haunt me...I'm about 5'9" 175lbs...i've gained some weight after the academy (10lbs)...but your are right about working out and concentrating on your core...I have read about that....but as of now I cannot exercise...I'm really afraid ill hurt myself even more...

step one, get an MRI to determine the exact cause

i had surgery Feb of this year from having sciatica for 3 years because it was mis diagnosed and i did physical therapy that just made it worse. shots didnt help nothing helped and surgery was the only option. Its been 6 months and i can ride dirt bikes, hike for miles, anything i want after 3 years of disabling pain. Dont make the same mistake. Push for an MRI

It is a game of patience but being impatient will prove disastrous. I was a very active guy (I'm still on active duty--retiring in a couple months) and always working out. I had to slow down and realize that being fit did not mean trying to win a race or bench pressing a house. Slow and steady wins this race. I watched my diet, walked long distances instead of running short distances, and worked out with light weights. I also did a variety of exercises that kept my body toned versus trying to get my "six pack" back (which, honestly, wasn't going to happen no matter what I did anyway). It's tough being reminded that we are fragile and that not all of us are cut out to be extreme sports athletes or even everyday gym rats. You do what you can and count your blessings.

As for hurting yourself more, I think that is a rational line of thought. I think you just being aware that the potential exists will make you more cautious... and that in and of itself is not a bad thing. Just do what you can and no more. Don't try to push yourself into unknown territory when it comes to your health.
