They literally are a type of goat and not an antelope actually. Haha and they are fast as hell. Damn near as fast as a cheetah on an all out burst. The funny thing is cheetahs can only maintain top speed for a rather short burst and they are pretty much trashed for the rest of the day. Pronghorns can run at top speed for much longer.

They also have magnaified vsion. I forget what power though. Natives used to lure them in by waving rags in the air, they are really curious.

I didn't know that. Kind of makes sense. Would help to spot predators from farther away.

x2 on being fast. The've run beside me while i've been going 60 before, and thru some gnarly terrain while going that fast too! They cant jump tho which is hilarious cuz when the come up on a fence they just plow into it or scootch under it. Makes you wonder what predator used to roam around here to make them evolve that speed.

Just did a little googling on that and one source says it's like looking through 8 power binoculars. I also found they have a 320* field of vision.

American Cheetah is what most people figure. Because Pronghorn are a hell of a lot faster than anything else in North America today. haha I guess the American Cheetah was just a faster version of the Mountain Lion that relied on speed to catch prey rather than surprise like Mountain Lions do.

Well we use our eyes together in unison though. Pronghorn and most other herbivores have their eyes on the side of their head and they work a little more independently than ours. Not sure what ours is but I could see it being around 60-80.

Funny story about a pronghorn. They can run up to 60mph. Known fact. I actuallly got to witness this on my way home from St Louis. I was in Wy just outside of Cheyenne and putting a lot at about 60 due to bad weather.

When out of the corner of my eye i see something moving in the center drainage that splits the interstate in two...

    wtf is that...

    holy...shit..

a mother freaking antelope...scared to hell..running..right..next to me..haha it was like i was making a slow pass around a car..and it was just running like mad next to me. Terrified look in it eye..the whole time im praying..please don't turn into me..please don't turn..please don't turn...

    was crazy haha

true. And they mostly just have insane peripheral vision and detech movement like crazy. they are very hard to hunt.

they also don't jump over barbed wired fences like deer. Then crawl under them. Its pretty cool to see actually.

Deer have pretty good eyesight as well and incredible hearing, but that's all pretty common among large herbivores like that.

I do find it odd that deer can jump stupid high and the pronghorn can't. Or maybe they choose not to:notusre: I know Mule deer aren't as fast as a pronghorn but it is damn impressive to watch them go right over the top of a steep ass mountain at full speed:eek: I've seen them get up stuff in just a few seconds that takes me 30+ minutes to get up even moving at a solid pace.

True. haha Interesting most animals actually have the same number of strides per second to include humans. So typically the longer the stride the faster the animal. That's why those 4 legged animals can out run us. It's easy to have a longer stride when you can kick off both back legs and land on the front instead of just the stride between the 2 rear legs.

Humans are endurance machines though! We can run down horses if you give us a day and enough water to stay hydrated.

 I don't know that many people except maybe marathon runners are on par with what our ancestors prior to civilization were capable of. Watch that vid and you will understand what I mean about running down a horse.
