3D printed wireless charger for 2nd gen

 

I haven’t been on the site in months, the things you miss.

 

Will this work for 3rd gen Tacomas that did not come with the wireless charging pad?

 

The Qi charger itself would work and be plug&play since it taps off the cigarette 12v input. but the molded carrier base would not fit the 3rd gen.

Better option for 3rd gens is possibly a new OEM Qi charger made for the 3rd gen @$750, or finding a wrecked 3rd gen in a junkyard or through sites that specialize in junkyard parts like car-part.com.

Just be aware that there might be a problem with the rubber pad in the 3rd gens.

The pad isn't the issue. The amount of combined heat between the phone and charging pad is since it's just a low level wireless charger. It's great for topping off a phone or getting some charge, but don't expect a full charge from dead because the battery will heat up so much that it just stops taking charge.

Wireless chargers have come a ways since this was designed into the Tacoma. Modern chargers charge faster and create less heat. I'm hoping for an OEM looking upgrade sometime.

 

Problem with the OEM charging pads, is that it is straight up dumpster fire. So if this Scosche mold worked, I would have been so on it.

Not in dire need of a Qi charger, but it is a quality of life thing.

Anyone get this to work with/on a wallet phone case? With the placement of the magnets etc.

I've gotten it to work w/o the phone case.

 

I have an iPhone 11 with a thick case on it and used the long one piece magnet and it works flawlessly. They recommend the smaller magnets, but the bigger one works better.

 

Damn...I can't get it to work with my wallet phone case for my Galaxy S10.

Might need to mod my case now.

 

@Unchained 5150 and others who ordered, does the Scosche Qi charger you received have the phone locating tabs spaced out to the far edges like this one? Or are they closer towards the middle?

That model is perfectly square as to where the Tacoma’s is not due to the shape of the cubby.
