I want some of whatever this guy is smoking. The 3rd gen is about the furthest thing from real towing power in midsize trucks.

Crazy is right, most we tow is a small RV, this works, if we move up in size, then I will visit the local Ford dealer, F150.

Agreed, but would like to see a move to breeders instead of the once through and store spent fuel. Or at least reprocessing.

You mean cool things like tools? All the battery drills, impact drivers with built in replacement, obsolescence, like 10yr throw away smoke alarms? lol!

All my old corded electric & pneumatic tools from 20+ years ago are all still good, if only I wasn’t too lazy to crank up the air compressor and drag an air hose around. I probably paid more for the new kool batteries alone, that won’t last as long, and let’s not forget the chargers and the obsolescence built into both of them, like those 12&14V electric tools.

And my electric smoke detectors lasted 20+yrs, which is much longer than many new homeowners live in their homes.

Now that’s kool, but why do we do all this? Go figure!

I don't think the population of Fukushima would agree with you. But maybe fusion reactors might hold better, idk...

Most tool manufacturers are making the newer batteries and tools compatible with the older tools. Corded tools are okay in your garage, but I'm really glad I can do my job without dragging a cord around.

The 10 year smoke detectors make sense, because you're supposed to replace them every 10 years anyway. At least you don't have to replace the batteries every few years in the meantime.

FWIW, I'm not in any hurry to buy an EV until battery technology improves, or a more environmentally friendly power supply comes along.

Ten years replacement for smoke detectors anyway? Say who, the people that sell them?
Actually they can last a lot less, depending on if you left something smoky burning on the stove, or longer if you hardly cook big meals indoors. There is a test button on all the ones I had, and the reason I replaced the old ones is because it let me know it was no longer working, so there's that.
EV battery replacement cost is too high now, we'll see later

I believe that's just the general rule. You can always test them with a can of smoke, and keep them until they don't work. The test button doesn't really prove anything except that they have power, and that they're communicating with each other.

Edit: agreed about battery replacement. It's one of several reasons I'm not about to buy an EV.

I believe the reason for the 10yr replacement guidance is because the lens gets foggy/dusty, which you can easily clean. Most people now don't want to fix or work on anything , or don't want to take the time, or have the time.

I wonder if folks fought as hard against using the horse as transportation and the invention of the wheel as hard as you are fighting technology! LOL

I had an amigo who cussed LED light bulbs to no end, said it's just a way to screw the user into paying more, there is nothing it can do that a good old incandescent cant do. But then I read that the invention of the A/C unit was fought originally because God intended man to be hot in the summer and to make the air cool was going against Gods will.

I dont even own a corded drill anymore, no need to.

I would have to agree. If it has a turbo don't buy it. It's a money pit.

Why do you say I’m fighting technology? I’m using the good technology that is fast & convenient such as some battery power tools and staying away from the junk like EV’s and turbo.

I’ll let you try it first, and good luck with them lol!

    Lol!

I'm not a fan of EV's in their current form, but I don't know if I'd call them junk.

And, turbos are awesome for making power. The next generation Tacoma is going to have way more torque, and at a much lower RPM. Aside from potentially being problematic, I don't see the downside. :notsure:

    But of course not.

If they build it someone will buy it

It's not the years. It's the miles. I drive about 75 miles round trip to work each day. My 2020 truck already has nearly 60k miles. I plan to retire in the next few months which means I will only be driving locally. I estimate about 50-75 miles per week vice daily. If I do trade my truck it will probably by my last new truck. I'm not getting any younger. And I will not buy a four-cylinder engine.

It's great seeing how many people are scared of turbos around here. Maybe Toyota will have a hard time selling them, and those of us who want more power and better fuel economy will get great deals when we decide to upgrade.

I’m keeping my ‘08 with 122k that I just changed tensioner assembly and idler pulleys, valve cover gaskets, plugs and ignition coils. I am buying another V6 just because I want one before they’re more difficult to obtain. At least that’s my thought. Availability will become more and more scarce
