    You know what this forum really needs? More threads from cranky old guys complaining that turbos are "complicated" and "unreliable".
    Y'all love V6's with no torque and shitty MPG? Then I'll happily sell you my 3G in a couple years.

    Hey has anyone been paying attention to the fuel requirements? The internet has been suggesting that the engine will run with 87 octane fuel. I think that Ford bronco does the same thing...

    I've been wondering how this can work. When the turbine is running, the additional increase in pressure in the cylinder increases the temperature which can cause premature detonation. The higher octane fuel requires a higher temperature to ignite so that's normally used in supercharged engines to make up for the higher pressure. So how can the engine still run on regular fuel? can the ECU be controlling the turbo boost right to edge of knock? what kind of sensors would be needed to do this?

    Several manufacturers make turbo engines that run just fine on 87 octane including Ford, Subaru, and Toyota. (I'm sure there are others.) The new Tundra takes 87. Modern sensors and computer controlled valves, timing, air/fuel, boost, etc. all make it possible.
    They will make more power with 91/93.
