I had the opposite experience, our RAV4 made in Japan has more squeaks and rattles than my Mexican built taco and the drivers door on the RAV requires more effort to close vs the other doors since new. I think it’s just luck of the draw, not to mention my GTI made in Mexico is solid as a rock.

Anyways still American made, of course built in Mexican plant.
Hopefully they start using better paint and frame rust proofing materials, with out the BS US laws and regulation.

That's funny shit right there, right there! Actually made me LOL!

I read on TW - your Tacoma is either built in Texas by Mexicans or Mexico by Mexicans.

Pretty sure everybody knows the best Taco's are made in Mexico.

    It's probably more like...
Toyota assembly line worker in Mexico=$14.00 an hour
Toyota assembly line worker in US=$24.00 an hour

The average Japanese factory worker is higher paid than the average American factory worker.
    It isn't 1959 anymore

Toyota has been building the Tacoma in Mexico since 2004 and I don't think you'll find any significant statistical data out there showing that there is a build quality difference between the trucks made in Mexico versus the ones built at NUMMI (1995-2009) or TMMTX (2010-2020). Toyota is actively investing in vehicle production in the USA and is currently expanding their production capabilities while consolidating production of similar platforms. It makes more sense to build the similar Tundra and Sequoia models at the same factory and upgrade the Tacoma factory in Mexico to be able to fill the demand required. It's definitely a money thing, but Toyota does seem to reinvest their profits into the USA economy. Despite the move of exclusive Tacoma production to Mexico, Toyota will still continue to build more vehicles in the USA than they ever have before, and that number continues to rise, it's just going to be different models instead.

Toyota recently stopped building the Corolla in Canada and moved all production to Mississippi and Japan so that more RAV4's could be built in Canada. Is that cheaper for Toyota? Absolutely. Is that worse for consumers? Certainly not.

I have definitely seen lower quality vehicles coming from factories in Mexico, but I think that the reason for that is often that lower-cost vehicles are made in Mexico. As I said, I am not aware of any significant quality difference between the Tacoma vehicles made in Mexico vs. made in the USA. A quality design with proper quality controls will result in quality vehicles. A lot of the comparisons are often apples to oranges when comparing countries of production because different vehicles are being compared. Despite driveline similarities the 4Runner is really a very different vehicle than a Tacoma and so the comparison while not quite apples or oranges (really apples to slightly different apples) it's not a really great comparison either. Comparing a C-HR made in Turkey to one made in Japan, a RAV4 or Lexus RX from Canada vs Japan, or a Yaris from France vs Japan is where you need to look.

I do think there are some small differences between the vehicles produced in various countries, and I do still have a bit of a soft spot for Japanese-produced Toyotas, but I don't think it should be a large concern to any typical buyer or even to most enthusiasts. Not many Japanese-made Toyotas are being sold outside of Japan's shores these days though. It truly is a very global industry these days.

As a Canadian, I get a real good kick out of people talking about "domestic" vehicles. Oh you mean that foreign vehicle made in a foreign country? Yes... very domestic.

Are environmental standards at the Mexican Plant as good as the US plant since they don’t have the EPA n Mexico? I’m a bit of a Greenie which is another reason I like to avoid certain countries.

I would suspect that the standards are similar to other Toyota factories but not because the Mexican government, haha.

My truck was one of the last built in the Nummi plant in Fremont, Calif. They had a fair amount of Hispanic workers. It's been a good truck.

For some reason YouTube suggests his videos semi-frequently. I've clicked on a couple and have never finished one. To be honest he's not always wrong, and occasionally makes some good points, but I find his personality a bit grating.

The 4Runner is built like a tank in Japan, Mitsubishi makes junk in Japan. The Tundra is built like a tank in the US, GM makes junk in the US. The Tacoma is built like a tank in Mexico, Chrysler makes junk in Mexico. The common thread is a company that knows how to treat their employees, build their factories, and spend their design budget, not country of origin.

My 2006 Jeep Liberty was made with pride in toledo, OH. Right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. by unionized, skilled assembly line workers. I bought it in 2009 with a mere 48,000 miles on it and traded it in at 160k. after putting 112k on the clock, re-building the driveline, re-building the motor at 150k, and dealing with all the other cool jeep things that nobody here would understand, (for example, i can change a radiator in a liberty faster than most can change their oil), I can now say that without a doubt, US made doesn't mean jack shit. I've only had my tacoma for 6 months so i will have to check back in at 160k to see the difference.
