Haha yeah, it was actually a rebuttal to the video itself that I posted here too with a bit of editing. It was more than either discussion deserved. But at least here someone who cares might actually read it.

As with most manufacturers Toyota is seeing a major uptake in SUV demand and wants to increase SUV production in North America. As far as I can tell they’ve done this by changing the Corolla line to a second RAV4 line in Canada (there are now 2 factories in Canada producing the RAV4, in addition to one in Japan) and by changing over the Sequoia line in Indiana to produce more Highlanders.

To do this, they have increased production of the Corolla in Mississippi (and added Japanese production), are moving Sequoia production to the similar lines at the Tundra plant in Texas, and increasing capacity at the Tacoma plant in Mexico.

In the end I think that all of this will result in more jobs and more work for American workers (along with Canadian, Mexican, and Japanese workers) and a better outlook for Toyota in the US. Being able to build and ship vehicles cheaper benefits the consumer, Toyota as a company, Toyota’s employees, and Toyota’s investors. It may not drop the price of the truck but it may hold off on price increases, allow for design improvements, and increase competition with other brands. A Toyota doing well is a Toyota investing in regional economies in the US and elsewhere.

If you take a less shortsighted view of the situation I think you’ll find Scotty’s reactionary video to be a tad misguided.

EDIT: Sorry for all the words again.

tl;dr: This may or may not be bad for Tacoma quality, but it’s probably good for everyone overall.

    Jeff

I checked mine as soon as i saw your post lol. Mine was made in Mexico. Quality is good. I dont seem to have the issues that most of the 3rd gens are posting here in TW other than the leather seat rubbing against the center console, its gonna rattle for the rest of my life. I guess i got lucky.

I like Scotty's videos, but it seems like the only car he has no complaints about is a 1994 Toyota Celica...

That’s because he’s still living in his glory days of doing key bumps in the parking lot of a Bon Jovi concert

I understand the outrage of jobs leaving the States, but the notion that Toyota vehicles built in Mexico are somehow lower quality is ridiculous.
Yes wages are lower but that does not determine someones work ethic, skill and training.

:rofl:I had forgotten about the video it made my day. One of my ex girlfriends had 8 cats and it was a totally shit show in her house, it was enough to gag a maggot. I don't mind cats and had one for 16 years but I won't get another the whole litter box thing gets old.
