There is also a pretty active FB Group for Scout owners @

I'm one of the admins on there currently, but obviously I'm trying to have a good spot over here on TW for Yoho info, too.

My wife and I will be picking up our Scout Yoho in about a week! we are super excited. we are putting it on a 21 TRD off-road DCLB... We'll be adding our own camp stove and will just use a yeti cooler in the meantime since we already have those items. I'll be adding some sumosprings in the rear this week... Is anything else recommended to get things ready?

Naw, you should be good to go. Just use it as is and see what you'd like to improve after some use. Personally I'd want to add some sort of better front tie down point than the stock ones, but some people seem to be using them as is.

Previously had this Powertank bracket and 11lb propane tank mounted on my swingout. Gone back and forth the entire time we've had the camper whether to mount it or not. Was thinking of mounting it on a platform with our new Champion Dual Fuel Generator, but figured we won't always want the generator but we'll definitely want the extra propane.

I ordered the black one first, from an overseas vendor with a good deal. After 2 months of waiting, I did a refund through Paypal. Musta been a scam, and I was sorta thinking it mighta been but figured Paypal would take care of me. I think the only diff between the black and yellow (besides color) is that the black one doesn't have the 12v cigarette style plug outlet, and instead has two USB ports. The yellow one comes with a cigarette USB plug adapter.

I did not notice the cigarette-style outlet. Thanks for pointing that out! I'd rather have that than the two USB outlets, especially since they provide a dual USB adapter. :notsure:

I doubt I'll use the 12v or the USB ports often. My truck has plenty of 12v power with a 92AH battery and the camper's got about 1000 watt hours available in a couple power stations. Not gonna fire up a 2500 watt generator to charge my cell phone or plug in any 12v accessories.

So as long as you got a decent price, I say you've got a win for it's real use.

Wanted to share with everyone what upgrades we have done to secure our Scout Yoho to our Tacoma (2021 double cab long bed TRD-Off-Road). There isn't a lot of info out there on the Tacomas with Scout campers so hoping to start a community where we all can share and learn from everyone.

We didn't feel the stock locations were sufficient to hold down the Scout and we'd hate to see something unfortunate happen. We wanted to make sure we were using anchors that utilized the frame bolts on both ends of the bed. In these first two pictures, I have circled the frame bolts to utilize

    upload_2022-6-5_20-3-16.jpg

The Black D ring Tie-down (red X) locations are ok for smaller loads like a motorcycle, but unfortunately don't directly secure into the Tacomas bed frame and arent strong enough for the Scout. The circled bolts are what we want to attach to.
    upload_2022-6-5_20-8-54.jpg

For the Two bolts near the cab of the bed, I found these tie-down hooks. These are from Hooke Road. There are other companies out there that make the same or similar type of anchor, but what your looking for is a solid one-piece, unlike the open D rings.
    upload_2022-6-5_20-28-29.jpg

For the Bolts near the tailgate, you want to get a set of Tacoma BedFrame Stiffeners. Here you'll want to be particular with what brand you go with as the designs differ and you'll have some issues if you get the wrong set. This is because the scout will not clear some types. I went with a set from Total Chaos Fabrication.
    upload_2022-6-5_20-39-43.jpg

What one would look like installed.
    upload_2022-6-5_20-41-51.jpg
and here (below) with the scout loaded.
    upload_2022-6-5_20-43-9.jpg

Finally, you'll want to get a thicker rubber bed mat to minimize the impact from the frame bolts below that sits a bit higher now. I was able to solve this with a thicker rubber 4'x6' Horse stall mat found at Tractor supply. This picture was taken with the standard Tacoma rubber mat.. it wasn't thick enough.

I hope this helps out. Let me know what you think.

    - Jon

All good mods. I really do worry about people using those OEM front tie downs. It's too bad those front tie downs you list won't work for a short bed.

Personally, I think the OEM mat is doing fine, but your suggestion of a thicker mat is surely an improvement. My only concern with it would be the added weight.

So the actual recommendation came from Scout to install a thicker rubber mat. This is to avoid the pressure from the bolt heads causing stress on the corners of our Yoho in the Tacoma with the bed stiffener mounted. without the stiffeners, the bolts sit a bit lower and don't seem to be of any problem with the stock mat...

It's too bad the shorter beds don't have a better option. But I do like the backing plate I've seen put behind the composite bed.

yeah, I went about as overkill as I could get with sandwiched plates for my front tie downs.

Spent any nights in it yet? You on the Scout Owners FB Page?

Cool. Just followed you, not that I'm ever on Instagram. I'm an Admin on the FB group, so relatively active on there. Good to see another Taco/Yoho on here, though. Definitely not as many of us as folks with the Kimbo or FWC.

Wish I had taken more photos over the weekend. Was out at the Northwest Overland Rally. Scout (Adventurer) had a vendor booth setup with three of their campers. I checked out their new diesel heater setup, door latches, window and skylight upgrades. All great updates (I'm a little jealous). But the best part was getting to chat with Tyler and Ellie (sp?) from Scout. They both seemed genuinely interested in our feedback on the camper and even came over to check out the modifications we had made. Ellie had actually just been on TacomaWorld checking out my posts before meeting us. Later that day another person from Scout came over and introduced himself as David. He also wanted to talk about our experience so far with the camper. When I asked what he did at Scout, boy was I surprised when he said who he was. It was David Epp, CEO of the company!

HAHAHA. Love it. A few people about to be happy campers. I get why the legs are extended on the Scouts loaded on the trailer... but kinda odd they are extended on the truck too. *SHRUGS*

For the bolts near the cab…how do you access them with the rubber mat covering them? Thanks for the great info - I ordered these items and I am planning to install in the coming days. I already have a thick mat installed and it covers the bolts near the cab.

Depending on the mat material, a hole saw might work well. Just stick a board under where you are drilling, especially if drilling while it's still in the bed of your truck.
