    I moved to Colorado in 1976 driving a 1973 2wd Datsun with a 1.6 l carbureted motor and carrying a 6Pack brand slide in camper…vastly overloaded with girlfriend and all my possessions. 20 mph over Wolf Creek Pass. Not anything I’d wish on anyone, but a true adventure! We didn’t know where we would settle in the Rockies, but it became Colorado.
    Your Yoho should be fine. After all modern materials and camper engineering has come a very long way since 1976! However, your mileage will suffer along with stability. It happens with every pickup/camper setup. My last was an F350 4x4 crew cab with an 8’11” Northernlite…a dream setup I should never have sold! The best out of a half dozen pickip campers I have owned and driven from Key West, FL to Deadhorse, AK.
    Just try to keep all your additions in control by weight. Many full size F350s, GMC 3500s, and Dodge 3500s are way overloaded as well. Not a good thing!
    Weigh your rig (CAT scales or I use a local landscape companies’ scales) and stay in control. If the winds are truly bad, slow down and/or pull off the road and take life easy. No different than any other adverse condition. Once in Kansas we had 50 mph crosswinds. We slowed to 35 mph and stayed in control. Watched a wild turkey flying backwards across the interstate because of the wind. Luckily she was 50 feet ahead of us and didn’t get hit.
    Enjoy your new Yoho, just be safe paying attention and careful.

    As for your worries about the camper falling out, that really shouldn't happen as long as you keep an eye on your tie downs. During the first few thousand miles you should check the ratchet straps EVERY time you stop. If you are offroading with a lot of rough roads, you should probably stop every 15 or so minutes and tighten them. You only need to do this until the straps are broken in. They stretch a lot, but once they do you won't need to worry about this anymore. Mine stretched enough when new, in 10 minutes of hard twisting and offroading that I could remove the tie downs by hand, without loosening them. They had stretched over an inch.

    As for how it feels driving, surprisingly better than expected. The wind definitely can push you around, but again, not as drastic as I thought it would be. Slowing down, driving the speed limit, or the truck speed limit if you have that in your area is a great way to do it. It'll save you a lot of gas and make the drive less stressful.

    Thanks so much for the reply!! That makes me so much better and more comfortable waiting on my Yoho... Currently I have stock Tacoma TRD.. I am looking at what mods I need and places sometimes just want to sell you things u don't need so hearing it from any of you here with a camper would make more comfortable on what I actually need.. wasn't thinking of any lifts but I am getting recommend on a small lift ? Does it help at all?

    No Reason you'd need a lift unless it was to fit bigger tires. You just need e-load tires and a heavy duty leaf pack or air-bags (depending on how much time the camper will be on the truck). If you go airbags, you don't need the on board air system most shops try to to sell people on. Just a nice bicycle pump is all you need.

    I bought the Scout cause I DIDN'T want a pop-up, lol. I really wanted the hard walls. And no material to get wet and need dried out. It is a neat new layout, but storage is WAY down in there. I'm still really glad I got in early. I prefer the fireplace over the new diesel heater setup. Diesel puts out more heat, but it's far from silent, and you don't get the great ambiance.


    BTW... I was soooooo confused when I just clicked on your 2019 Tundra TRD Pro link in your signature... I wanted to like a couple posts and couldn't. Finally realized it was on Tundras.com hahaha.


    I see you don't have the Habitat anymore, so you gonna pick up a Scout??

    I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet lol

    I originally bought the habitat for a trip to Alaska that hasn’t happened yet. Sold it last year as I had hardly used it - camping in the Midwest isn’t near as fun as out west. There’s hardly any public land around here.

    I’ll likely pickup something again but haven’t really decided what. Just waiting til I figure out when I can take a month off work and will get something once I know I can make a big trip. Seems there’s still a lot of new stuff coming out and can either go that way or try to find a deal on the used market.

    My current favorite is the super pacific x1
