Geeze I sure have been active here lately lol.

So today I started up my truck and my dashboard LCD screen was scrambled. I didn't take a photo, but it looks identical to what's shown in this topic.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/screen-appears-scrambled.749367/

I turned off the truck and waited for the screen to turn off, then turned it back on and it was normal. Truck is a 2020 SR Access Cab with roughly 31,800 miles on it.

It looks like most of the folks who encountered this issue had the same experience as me in that it fixed itself. But I figured I'd ask around to see if anyone else found an actual cause or solution to this?

For what it's worth, I ran over to AutoZone and had them test the battery and sure enough, one of the cells was bad. So I swapped out the battery with a new one as my current battery was the original, so I'm lucky I got 4 years out of it in the Arizona heat.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Dude you got 4 years in Arizona?.... duuuude go buy a lottery ticket like NOW.

I swap out batteries in 3 vehicles every other year whether they need it or not.

Hahaha maybe I have good luck with batteries? I have a 20 year old Civic I put a new battery in before leaving Oregon (so January of 2020), and the battery finally died in December of 2023. I'm seriously shocked it lasted that long because unlike my Tacoma, it's not parked under a carport or in a garage. It's been parked outside in the sun since I arrived in Arizona back in February 2020. Wild!

I might buy a lottery ticket though. I could use the extra money to mod my Taco, I mean, be a responsible adult ;)

And to help your fellow man, and locate and buy them a brand new 2023 that is still on the lot somewhere.
Access Cab preferred, any color other than Lime, White, or Black.... but this luzer-chooser won't be picky.

Wanted to bump this to see if others have experienced this recently? Seems like it's mostly 2020s with a few 2021s thrown in. I can't find any super recent threads about it, so I'm wondering if it's just a periodic glitch or if I should look into it more?

Check out post #42. Might be a connector issue.

Sometimes it feels like I just can't win with this truck lol.

Would a connector issue be like an entire wiring harness or something along those lines? Admittedly I am not any sort of expert when it comes to vehicles, so apologies if this is a dumb question.

I did have aftermarket fog lights installed the day before this happened at what I believe is a reputable shop. But it seems like this has affected people with and without aftermarket mods.

If it were me, I would start by crawling under the dash and check all the connectors to the Combo meter to make sure they are tight. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself you might have a mechanic or friend help you.

I always like to unhook the Negative battery cable before doing electrical work.

Older thread, but wanted to share my experience with this issue as well. 21 OR, and I had it happen to me twice recently. Both times I was parked on a hill at an angle where the sun was directly hitting the LCD screen for a prolonged period on warm days. I put it in the shade and the issue when away and hasn't returned.

If it happens again, I would check the screen to see if the sun was cooking it. That seemed to be my issue.

I decided to jump onto the forum, and i am faithful to forums and i still wish my forum was up but free forums somehow flew the coop. Checking this post i was going to start with fuses and maybe even replacing the truck battery. I havent had hard starts but wifey is accustomed to a US Made suv. This is her gift since shes been wanting a truck. Anybody have any suggestions?
Fuzzy garbled dash lcd screen but truck seems to start and drive fine.
