You're supposed to use good ol' Murican dimes to assess paint scratch size. No play money allowed.

If like you said it's paint that has a scratch on the plastic and not metal, I would wait till spring to touch it up. I try to apply these two points when touching up: 1.) Try to do it in a heated garage if temperatures are below 40 degrees and 2.) Try not to apply touch up paint in direct sunlight.

Well it's the painted bumper piece that houses the fog lights and lower grille. I'm fairly certain it's plastic.

I don't have a garage but I'll wait until it's warmer, until April if I hand to and it'll touch it up.

I wouldn’t even waste my time touching it up. Probably have a few more Dings on the front bumper before to long anyways.

Don’t use the brush in the paint tube, it’s way too big to do a good job. I bought paint brushes from a hobby shop. Here’s a comparison shot between the brush I use and the brush from the paint tube. I used the one in the middle of the package in the second picture.3E63F013-5767-43FD-BF3C-81174BF2A112.jpg

Sweet jesus that would! How much did that set you back?

Yeah it looks likes I'll be okay with the touch up pen. Still not impressed by my dealer, I'll probably ask they reimburse the cost of the pen at minimum but thankfully these nicks are pretty small.

I would definitely wait till warmer weather to touch those up. If it's plastic it'll be fine till then. Plus you'll probably have a few rock chips from winter that you can touch up at the same time.

I always take photos of my vehicles prior to body work.

If the seat is in for service, I take pictures of the leather etc.

You either have proof or you don't.

I don't know about that in this case. Two adults looking at these scratches and knowing the bumper came off should come the same conclusion.

My first instinct when taking my vehicle to a designed dealer for service isn't "let's me make sure I have hundreds of photos of the exterior in case something happens".

These scratches are small enough that you have to take close ups of them. It's impossible to know where your vehicle might be scratched so by your reasoning I'd have to photograph every panel and edge.

And even then the dealer might say "those photos were taken before the scratch and the scratch took place before your service" so pictures aren't definitive either.

Quick update on this. Finally sat with the service manager regarding this and he saw the scratches and took full ownership of it right away.

He gave me two options, either he can have the bumper removed and repainted for approx. $300 or give me $300 credit in parts/service. Since I should be able to take care of these small spots with the touch up pen I took the credit. Overall I am mainly satisfied that they took ownership and made it right.

Glad to see your dealership take responsibility. My Toyota dealership scratched all 4 of my 4runner wheels and basically said re clearing them will never match or be as good as factory so we'll monitor it. Followed by 2 oil changes leaving my garage floor peppered with oil spots. No more business with them.

I see this as a great opportunity to get an aftermarket bumper! There's no way you should be driving a new Tacoma with a couple paint chips. Steel bumper is your only option right now.
