Posting mainly b/c I'd like get some input on what I can expect to get from the dealership to make this right. It's not huge scratches, but it's obvious and noticeable right on the rear door next to driver's side handle. Normally not worried about scratches on a truck, but it's brand new, I put 40K into the truck, and I DIDN'T cause the scratch, the dealer did! I'm not cool with leaving it, that's for sure! Of course the guy left the driver door open when I picked it up, so I had no reason to look down at that area to open my door. Noticed when I went to lock it in the driveway. Worst part is that I told them NOT to wash it so it wouldn't go through their automated car wash and get swirls!!

Curious to know what they can do with this kind of scratch to make it right? Can it be buffed out and not have a long term concern of paint appearance in that spot? Anything else that they will try to do for me that I shouldn't trust because it will have long term paint appearance problems?

Left message with dealer. Picked it up from service right at close, so haven't talked to anyone there yet. Thanks for the help!

If you didn't notice it before leaving the dealer you probably won't get far with the dealer, but good luck.

Don't look like a car wash scratch, looks like it's been keyed.

They will have that marked on the drop off delivery check. Where is your copy?

That certainly isn't going to "buff out".

Agreed, it may be harder with the fact that you have already left the dealership, but definitely talk to your service advisor and push for them to repair it. A couple cars have been scratched at my work and weve taken care of it no questions asked.
My dealership also does a vehicle walk around to make note of any scratches or dings before the vehicle is brough back, so we know exacly what was on the car, and if we have donw any accidental damage.

My dealer does the same, even for an oil change. We walk around, make note of anything and do the same after i pick it up. Precisely for this reason.

If you can feel it with your fingernail it's not going buff out.

They didn't put it through the wash... At least they listened to that request!

Have a copy of the work order they gave me when I dropped it off, and Multi-point Inspection Report Card and Invoice from when I picked it up... No notes of any scratches.

That's what they do at my dealership, so if they have no record of that scratch before your service can only help you. Wonder what the chances of the scratch being recorded on video while it was serviced?

Can definitely feel it with my fingernail... So they need to repaint the door to remedy it, I assume?

If you have a great dealer they might help you. But, if there is no proof who did it...

I wouldn't. The non matching paint on a single panel will be way more obvious than the scratches. That leaves painting the entire side. That's a lot of work.

If they admit to the damage....negotiate other things...additional free service work, discounts, etc

Sorry to hear that OP, I know that's got to hurt.
Even the guys that can't wait to get that first scratch badge of honor on the trail would be pissed that it happened in such a lame way.

    Best of luck dude

So even a brand new truck with supposedly no fading, and a stock toyota color will look out of place?
