    Hi,
My 2008 Tacoma with 170k plus miles makes a "screeching" high pitch noise when I start the truck in the mornings. The noise slowly goes away when the truck is been running for a few minutes.

Could've be a belt issue? I have never replaced them since I bought my truck.

Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Sounds like belt idler pulley's seizing up. Time to start replacing them

Sounds like a good time to replace your belt and check your idler pulley. Belt probably has a bit of a glaze.

Thank you. Are they pretty expensive to replace?

Trying to get an idea before I take it to the shop.

This. Belt most likely, but possible worn pulleys.

A shop could do it in 5 minutes, but would still charge their minimum shop time so maybe 1/2 hour or 1 hour, plus cost of belt.

Alternatively, a good serpentine belt should be under $30 and is an easy DIY if you'd like to try.

Here's a video for replacement (also will help if you just want to pull it and do a visual check of things). At 170K it's likely aged. Do look up some videos on how to test the tensioner pulley to see if it's bad while you're in there.

Rock auto has some nice little kits that have all the pulleys and a belt for reasonable prices.

Not a big problem at all,170,000 miles is excellent for not having ever changed your belt, that's how good Tacoma's are.

Very easy to change the belt.... release tension, swap belt, add tension. Done

That's good to hear. I'll be honest, working on vehicles is not my expertise :/

Our trucks are very user friendly with repairs compared to most vehicles. It's really a case of making sure you have the right tools and not rushing
