I’ve noticed recently that when I turn on my Tacoma, my screen has started to flicker. It’ll go away after a few minutes, mostly it’s when I start the truck. Also it started a few months ago before it got cold. I’m wondering if the screen is starting to go bad or if it might be something else. I have a 2019 trd sport with the jbl sound system.

if you are referring to the small screen inside the gauge cluster/dash, I have read other posts of folks having issues with them and getting them warrantied and others saying it never came back. Of course we get a lot of one time poster here, looking for help and info, but don't have the decency and/or time to follow up with a conclusion.

The flickering is on the head unit. I completely forgot about the cluster unit screen. The JBL head unit screen is flickering.

It is impressive how awful the Entune system is. I couldn't take it anymore and I had to replace the whole thing. The Entune system would sometimes just reboot over and over again. I had instances where it would connect to my iPhone and I could control the music on the Entune headunit, but the sound would only come out of my little iPhone speaker. Toyota makes a fantastic car, but their technology is absolute garbage.

What did you change to? I have the dreaded JBL system and have read it’s more trouble than it’s worth to upgrade it.

I had the JBL system too. I went aftermarket and went to the JVC KW-Z1000W (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWZ1000/JVC-KW-Z1000W.html) and it is fantastic. I added the front camera and integrated everything using the Maestro setup as well. Also, I integrated the stock USB input as well. The only thing I lost was the navigation features in the center dash display, but that was no big deal to me. The speakers sound much better, and everything just seems to work seamlessly.

I installed everything myself and was super simple.

I had to replace mine because my Bluetooth connection would drop. It started happening more and more often, like every 3 minutes. I got so insanely mad I just replaced the entire head unit and haven't had a single issue with that in well over a year. I'm not happy about Toyota putting absolute crap head units in these trucks.

Nice, is there a how to thread about it? When I looked months ago all I found were extreme re-wires and things along that line do to the JBL power output to the speakers.

When you buy the wiring harness and Maestro kits from Crutchfield, they will send you all the schematics of how to wire it up. For an additional fee, they will actually wire it for you, so all you have to do is plug it in (they stopped offering this through the pandemic, so I had to wire mine myself).

    an upvote for this.
not my Tacoma, but our Sienna has a similiar JBL headunit and it had issues like you're describing, and it was a low battery.
    new battery, no problems

might not be your problem, but worth an easy check
