On the 5vz-fe I read Yamaha designed the heads or the intake. They definitely reached out for help.

I live next to a national guard base.. I have apaches and Blackhawks flying 50feet over us.

My house is new and I am less than a mile from the base boundaries. I have had my phone gone into airplane mode randomly. My tinfoil hat is on now. I was also in the marines so I feel wierd thinking that way

A pity it made less power than today's 4-cyls. Yamaha did good work on the first-gen Taurus SHO and Lexus LFA.

No doubt Toyota was making some robust in-line cast-iron fours and in-line cast-iron sixes all the while. The complexity of an aluminum V6 engine was maybe a bit out of their reach at the time. Inline iron engines are a little more forgiving when it comes to engineering. Say what you want about USA quality, but the V-type engine game has always been strong stateside.

Tied several boat anchors to my truck to destroy MPG.
Make a video of it happening before you do anything so you scan show dealer in case it goes away magically and even if it does report it

It's no rocket, but I was always happy with the power. Especially the low end torque. 3rd gen 4runner is a good 500 lb lighter than a 3rd tacoma.

Sucks, but warranty should cover it.

Small update. I talked the guy who sold it to me. He said the tech would have to replicate it.

I told him no way to replicate it so I will just document it and hope for the best. He replied and said he will talk to service and see what they can do to just have it taken care of and be proactive. I'm torn. The whole dash will need to be replaced... and as most of us know especially in cold climates. Things never go back together the same. Plastic shatters as if it was dipped in liquid nitrogen...

If its offered to me should I take the replacement or wait and see if happens again?

Get it replaced regardless. If it did it once it'll do it again. And it's covered, for now.

I'm happy to report over 4k miles and nothing remotely like this has occurred on mine.

I'd take the replacement. My first 17 needed a new head unit, out of my 6 turd gens that was the only time, electronics are finicky, I wouldnt stress it. As most mentioned anything that is gonna go wrong will rear its head in the first 13k miles or so. Still a reliable turd.
