    Man, you are awesome!!!

Do you have any more pics of the inside of that rear panel? Anything else in there that could be moving around? Anything metal? How hard is that to remove? Is it just that one screw and the three bolts? Have you gotten the seatbelt panel to the passenger rear side off yet? Anything metal with play in that? I've got the foam and giving it a shot....

Also, you're my hero. You've been into the abyss. I've been staring at that panel. It seems like something metal is swinging... lodging and dislodging. See anything like that in there?

Nothing metal in there; however, there is a piece of 1/8 " foam crap for sound deadening, and it hangs from plastic clips... If there were a clip hanging, it might mark a noise like a plastic clip hitting either the rear metal wall, OR the black plastic pieces.... I have more pics, but not of what you want to remove...

I did use someone's pics and instructions on how to remove that stuff....

    I'm looking for you...

OK, I cannot find the post that helped me do this back in January: However here is what I remember...
To remove the plastic behind the rear seat.....

--Remove the 5 or 6 screws from those 2 pieces....
--the left one has to come out first as it overlaps the right one....there are about 5 red plastic "pins" holding it on.
--start with your fingers and apply pressure (Pull) toward you at the top of the piece... I believe there are 3 across the top...
--they should just "pop" and move to the next one. once you have one loose, you'll know where the next one is.
--once all 5 are loose, it's kinda hard to remove that left piece...you have to hold your mouth just the right way to get it out...important... watch you do not scratch the plastic panel to your right, that hides the seat belt..(you are in the rear seat facing the rear)..
--Once you get this panel out..the right hand one is a breeze...
The crappy little clips will mostly stay on the rear of the cab.. remove them and put them on the plastic piece for reinstallation later. Some clips may break also... cheap crap..!!

Hope this helps you... just take your time and think it out ... it will come out OK.

Sounds like the passengers front seat tracks. Looking at the viedo the seat vibrates with the sound. Put you wife in the seat while you drive and see if the noise changes.

Hey, truly appreciate the help everyone. It's not the front passenger seat... but I love the attention to detail there :) We've had four people in the truck to see if it changes the noise. It doesn't. And I've messed with all seats.

Anyhow, I'm taking her in tomorrow. I fear it's just something I can't get to. Like the beginning of some leaf spring or suspension squeak.

Hopefully, they'll find it without completely tearing the truck apart. I have a sneaking suspicion they'll just retorque cabin mounts and u joints and maybe grease something and it will go away.

This forum is so scary. I'm so frightened now that it's the beginning of something bigger. And that the "3rd gen" will be the taco killer. And we should all sell them and buy 2nd gens that hold their value while we can.

But then I remember that I love this truck and it's just a stupid tapping sound.

Hey all, it continues. So I feel OCD, but I brought the truck into the dealership anyway. The tech rode with me and immediately confirmed the noise. He told me I wasn't nuts and that it was definitely an issue that needs resolving.

    Good.

That was this morning. Fast forward to this afternoon and I got a call from them. They have no idea what it is. The guy who called said he looked in on the tech and noticed that the entire backseat was out - all panels were out and the back wheels were off. He found nothing wrong and still found the noise. So he called Toyota. I guess they're sending someone out tomorrow to help him and go through it? What the heck is going on? Again, 400 miles on the truck :(

Edit: Also, am I lame to worry about the tech putting everything back correctly, cleanly and without future issues? Generally that type of thing was done in the factory. Ugh, maybe I should have left the noise alone.

I have this same issue on my 16 sport dclb. Haven't really looked into it. Today when I have time I'll be putting it on my lift and checking it out. I have predator steps on it. But it's coming from same area as yours.

    My guess:

Some factory worker dropped their crack pipe into a duct/crevice back there and is rattling. The dealership will find it, assume it was yours and report it to the police who will come to your work and arrest you and take you to jail for 5 years.

Hey at least you won't have to worry about that damn noise!

I see your passenger seat rattling around; yours wouldn't be the first.
    Move it around maybe?

    Hey everyone,

Not sure if anyone cares. But to the guy who has the same sound: Sounds like it's in the passenger door lock assembly. Apparently it's called the "Door lock actuator". After going through the whole car - and having a toyota tech come out - they say they're 90% sure that this is where it's coming from. They ordered a new one and it should be installed tomorrow.

In the meantime - apparently they put 40 miles on the car figuring it out. The car now has 424 miles and I brought it in with 384. And with all of those seats out and the panels taken off - techs driving around etc. Man, hopefully the truck is still in fairly new condition.

It's kind of a bummer, but I'm psyched that they put in so much effort to find that creak. I'm not sure every other dealership would do the same. Anyway, glad it's not structural or part of the suspension.

I'm gonna inspect the hell out of the truck when I pick it up though.... sigh.

Door lock actuator is part of the latch assembly. Not sure why that would be rattling around in the door. I could see if it wasn't latching properly and the door was banging around but that should be noticeable

I wouldn't worry too much about it. These guys can take apart the car and put it back together with their eyes closed.

Thanks guys. The other weird part is I had my wife driving around while I rode in back... I had opened the door at one point and it didn't change the volume or rhythm of the sound at all... which is why I thought it had nothing to do with the door. But the tech said he took it for a drive (part of the 40 miles tacked on the odometer) with the door panel off and it was markedly louder. So he's sure it's coming from there. I'm in a loaner Sequoia and I can't wait to get rid of the damn thing ;)

Funny you say that. We had a guy at work telling us years ago a customer came in with their mustang I believe. Rattle noise in the door. He pulled the panel off and found a glass Coke bottle laying in the bottom of it

Update: So after replacing the actuator the sound was still there. Even though they were 90% sure it was the actuator (the toyota tech and the service guy). So after waiting for that part and installing a new one - they drove it and still found the sound. Now he's been underneath and the body mount bushing wasn't installed correctly... it needed to be reinstalled and retorqued. So with the new actuator and the new bushing/torquing apparently the "sound" is gone.

They are reinstalling the backseat and detailing the truck and giving me a full tank of gas (as they put about 100 miles on it test driving it around). So I can pick it up late tonight or first thing in the morning.

Dear lord, what a debacle. Please let it be over. Such a stupid, tiny, little thing. But HUGE kudos to the tech for putting in so much effort for it. The guy who called me said the tech was super stoked on himself for figuring it out after two full days of work.

    Just, wow.
