Yes, I think the previous weight was prior to the switch over their new flow formed process. I can provide a weight when I get mine in.

Ahhh, I am outta the loop.

I was curious though so I found this. So basically an upgrade over what I have.

    WHAT ARE FLOW FORMED WHEELS?
Flow Formed wheels are wheels that have been made by applying pressure to the inner barrel of the wheel while it is spinning after the casting has taken place. What this does is compress and stretch the aluminum, increasing the tensile strength of the wheel. This allows the wheel to be much lighter, stronger, have a greater resistance to shock, and a higher load capacity when compared to cast wheels.

Flow Formed wheels are the middle ground between gravity/low pressure cast wheels and fully forged wheels. To understand how the Flow Formed compares to each, let's look at what each type is.

WHAT ARE GRAVITY/LOW PRESSURE CAST WHEELS?
Cast wheels are the most affordable wheels on the market as the manufacturing process is much quicker and easier. Cast wheels can be categorized into two subcategories, gravity cast and low pressure cast.

Gravity cast involves pouring molten aluminum into the mold from the top using gravity as the factor of ensuring the mold is fully encased.

Low pressure casting involves injecting the aluminum into the bottom of a pressurized mold, filling it from the bottom up to help reduce air bubbles. While these two methods differ, there is not a noticeable difference in tensile strength between the two.

    WHAT ARE FULLY FORGED WHEELS?
Fully forged wheels are not hard to spot as they are going to be the most expensive and lightest wheels on the market. This is due to the way that fully forged wheels are manufactured. Instead of using molten aluminum, they start out with a solid piece of billet aluminum. A press takes this piece of aluminum and uses high pressure to hammer out the wheel to the specific design. This process ensures that you have the strongest wheel possible, but you are going to pay a pretty penny for it.

No.. you’ll be fine with the backspacing of the SCS wheels with stock UCAs. You typically don’t rub because of the UCAs.... it’s usually because of the wheel and tire combo. If you went with a true full 3 inch lift I would advise it.

Just take off the mud flaps and you're fine.

This apply to the SR5 as well? Don't you TRDOR guys have an inch or so on us, or is that only the Pros?

Really want to pull the trigger on some new wheels and tires but wanting to be 100% sure I'm not gonna have problems or need to modify anything. Don't have mudflaps, just that front air dam under the bumper.

Honestly I don't know about the sr5, I can only account for the trd off road. I'm sure it'll be fine though but just do a search, I'm sure someone has done it

I waited three days after noticing they was in stock. That was after at least two years of not being able to get a set of four at once.

Probably could have scored a set over time through various re stocks , the blemished wheel thread, or ordering from Freeman Toyota.

Thanks mate, hopefully someone with an SR5 will chime in and confirm. I've been trying to do some research here, gotten mostly good answers but more so from the TRDOR owners. Fingers crossed, If like to throw some blacks on my BBP Taco.

SR5s are the same height. You'll have to take the flaps off, if you want to have flaps you'll have to get something like the Rokblokz and use their cutout for fitting larger tires. Reusing stock tires will help too, just keep an eye on the tread depth on the tires you pick, MT and AT tires might have deeper tread and will be a little larger due to that. If you go 17x9 you may need to trim some plastic if it bugs you, eventually though the plastic will wear a hole and no longer rub.

265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks on 17" ray 10's rubbed on my TRDOR when it was stock height. Not bad at all but they did rub. Mostly when reversing.

I put 17x8.5 -6 wheels on mine, with 265/70r17 Ridge Grapplers. Rubbed in reverse, normal. Replaced flaps with Rokblokz and rub is gone unless I get some decent compression. I still haven't used the flap cutout though to move it back further.

Thanks for the insight mate, and the clarification on the SR5 being same height. I currently do not have mudflaps on the truck, unless I'm confusing lingo and everyone isn't talking about mudflaps, but more so the actual plastic wheel well liner itself. I don't plan on going 17x9, 8.5max...and still on the fence about just sticking to the 16x8s, but everyone mentions tire selection on the 17x8.5 is better. Not looking at a deep tread if I can help it, since most of my drive will be asphalt with packed trails here and there, no true offroading.

If I am understanding it correctly the 16x8s have a -12mm offset, so they stick out from the vehicle a little more, which sounds kinda nice. I may have that backwards though, still new to the Tacomas.

My '16 came with brand spanking new wheels and tires so just trying to get things lined up for a swap eventually, want a little more of an aggressive look.

I removed my mud flaps but still have some rub on one side. The "plastic" we are talking about is shown here:

Here's an excellent video by our very own @Rob Daman where he eliminates the plastic. I just haven't done it yet.

And if this doesn't do it for you, his Part 2 video is a must see.

Thanks big time! That clears up a LOT, I'll have to go pop out to my truck and see this plastic. Thanks for the video links explaining the process! I feel better now about possibly just buying them and dealing with any rub as it comes.
